William Oscar Swalberg

William Oscar Swalberg (Bill), 93, passed away peacefully in his Kaysville home on September 25, 2026, of natural causes incident to age. Bill was born August 18, 1933 at the William Henry Bassett and Eldula Bishop home in Delta, Utah as an only child of Enoch Eugene Swalberg and Wainona Bassett.

Growing up in Salt Lake City, Bill spent his childhood at his parents’ side among chickens and the occasional pig they got from his maternal grandparents. Times were lean, but his parents always made sure there was food on the table and a warm roof overhead. In his youth he found solace in attending church with his friends and working as a paper boy delivering the Salt Lake Telegram and working at Safeway.

Bill attended Granite High School, graduating in 1951 and joined the United States Navy in early 1952 as a 1st loader on a 3” gun aboard a Navy destroyer. The Navy was good to Bill and as his enlistment was drawing to a close, his thoughts turned to serving the Lord. In early 1956, a month after being honorably discharged from the Navy, Bill was set apart as a Missionary to the North Central States Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Upon his release as a missionary in early 1958, Bill was introduced to Mary Patricia Harrison (Pat) through a common friend of his mother. They wed on the 8th day of October 1958 in the Logan, Utah Temple and together they raised three children.

Bill chose to attend LDS Business college after his mission, graduating in 1960 with an associate degree in accounting. He spent his career helping small businesses with their accounting needs.

Bill and Pat lived in Salt Lake City and Bountiful, Utah, and then moved to Paradise, Gridley and Fort Bragg, all in California. After almost 20 years of living away from home, they moved back to Utah so Bill could help attend to the needs of his aging mother.

Much like his sweet bride, Bill was happiest when he was surrounded by family. He dearly loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and found deep satisfaction in his many church callings. He worked closely with the youth as a Boy Scouts of America leader and as a Branch President.

His greatest joy was his beloved sweetheart, Mary Patricia; their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He is survived by their daughter Ruth Ann Johnson (Stephen), Clint Eugene Swalberg (Laurie) and Kenneth Harrison Swalberg. At the time of his death, he had 13 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. His example of love, kindness, and deep devotion to family and to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, through his unwavering faithfulness, will be felt for generations to come.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Enoch Eugene and Wainona; his wife, Mary Patricia Harrison; and his grandson, Clint Kenneth Swalberg.

Services will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Kaysville 3rd Ward chapel, located at 855 East Mutton Hollow Road, Kaysville, Utah 84037. A viewing will take place prior from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
