William Vernal Duffin

William Vernal Duffin, 79, of Bountiful, Utah, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 7th, 2026, at his residence. He was born on September 13th, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah. William was the son of Vernal and Marian Duffin.

William is survived by his wife Jean Duffin of 54 years; and his children, Shannon (Christopher), Kimberly (Ryan), Christian (Tierney), and Lindsay (Nathan). William will be lovingly remembered by his 16 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Judie Madsen (Scott).

As a young man, William made lifelong friends during his time at Bountiful High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted to serve in the Air National Guard. Continuing a different kind of service, Bill then dedicated his time to serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He completed his service in the British Central Mission. Bill valued education; he received a bachelor's degree and master's degree from the University of Utah. 

Bill valued hard work. He began his professional life working for the governor of Washington state. He then continued to work in California, focusing on real estate development and construction. In Utah, he enjoyed his work in construction sales.

Throughout his life, Bill loved scuba diving all around the world with his wife Jean. He especially enjoyed diving with hammerhead sharks in the Fiji Islands. Bill took an active role in the lives of his children by ensuring they were all certified in scuba diving. He had a variety of interests. He was especially adept at creating stained-glass. He had an avid love for foreign sports cars-he even owned an MGA, Maserati, Jaguar and a Corvette. William greatly enjoyed collecting watches and pens. Most of all, he loved traveling with Jean.

Bill was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in three different bishoprics as well as a branch presidency. Bill had a strong testimony of his savior, Jesus Christ, and this was evident through his love and service towards others. He furthered his faith by collecting scripture passages and passing on motivational sayings to his loved ones.

Those who knew Bill will remember him for his infectious laughter and unique sense of humor as well as his commitment to having fun. Bill always enjoyed grabbing lunch with friends and family-he enjoyed a good conversation. He had the gift of generosity and making others smile, leaving a lasting impact on all those who encountered him.

Friends and family are invited to Bill's funeral on Friday, January 16th, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. The funeral will be held at the North Canyon stake center (965 East Oakwood Drive, Bountiful, Utah 84010). Visitation hours with the family will be held the night before at the North Canyon stake center, January 15th, from 6 to 8 p.m. as well as the morning of the funeral at 9:30 - 10:30 am.
