Wendell D. Leavitt, 91, beloved father & granddad was reunited with his eternal companion on 10 FEB 2007. He was born to Franklin Samuel & Selena Hafen Leavitt on 27 APR 1915 in Mesquite, NV; graduated Virgin Valley High School, NV; served a mission to the East Central States Mission; graduated from the University of Nevada with a BA in History and a Teaching certificate. He was a 2nd Lt during World War II with the 3rd Inf. Div fighting in Europe, receiving the Silver Star, Bronze Star, 2 purple hearts and other medals.
He married Wilma Glenna Hackney, his sweet heart on the 21st of FEB 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and had 5 children. He was a farmer, teacher, mason, and entrepreneur. He moved his family to Farmington, Utah in 1961 where he owned and ran a Beaver Ranch. He ran for various offices under the Democratic ticket. He served as the 1st Bishop of the Layton 10th Ward. Member Farmington 9th Ward. He was a member of the SUP and Lt Col in the Mormon Battalion. He had a strong testimony of the LDS Church. He was thoughtful of his neighbors and would give the shirt off his back. He also taught his children a strong work ethic.
He is survived by his children, Wendy Lee, Gregory Scott, Robert Bruce, Andre Shannon Hicks, David Shane Sharin Leavitt, 8 grandchildren, sister-in-law Bernece Leavitt and nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers Ernest Franklin Malinda and Martha, Samuel Edward Clara, Odell Alta, Martin, Orson and sister Malinda Jess Brown.
There will be a viewing Wednesday, Feb 14th from 6:30 ? 8:30 pm at Russon Bros. Mortuary, 295 N Main, Bountiful, UT and 11:45 ? 12:45 prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held Thursday 15th Feb 2007 at the Farmington Stake House, 695 S. 200 E. Farmington, UT at 1:00 pm. Interment Farmington City Cemetery.
