Sr. Master Sergeant (Ret.) Wayne Richard “Dick” Walton, aged 84, passed away comfortably at home on March 24th, 2026. He is fondly remembered by family and friends with one of his signature phrases, “I will see you later.”
Dick was born on April 21st, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Wayne and Elaine Walton. He attended West High School and at age 17 enlisted in the United States Air Force, beginning a distinguished career of service to his country. He was an avid elk and deer hunter who also found solitude and peace at his property at Bandana Ranch.
Dick proudly served in the United States Air Force for over 43 years, retiring in 1999 at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. During his career, he worked quality assurance for the 419th tactical fighter wing at Hill Air Force Base, almost exclusively with the F16 fighter planes. His well-known moniker “GOAT” is fondly remembered by many friends and colleagues. Since retirement Dick was an active member and two-time Exalted Ruler at the Bountiful BPOE (Elks) Lodge. He cared deeply about his family, never forgetting a birthday or holiday card fit for the occasion. He has also attended a dedicated 4-5 shift Down Under, spending time with friends and family.
Dick is preceded by his parents, his brother Craig Walton, his sister Diane Murphy, and his wives, Janice Lorraine Hudson and Linda Nell Walton. He is survived by his siblings, Warren, Cheryl and Lonnie, and his children, Lorry (Jed) Titmus, Dean (Robyn) Walton, Allan Walton, Kim (Kevin) Neagle and Anthony (Tanya) Greenhalgh; his 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
A celebration of life for Dick will be held on Friday, April 10th, 2026, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Bountiful Elks Lodge (544 West 400 North in West Bountiful). His graveside service will be on Saturday, April 11th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful City Cemetery (2224 South 200 West in Bountiful).
Graveside services will be streamed live on the Russon Mortuary & Crematory YouTube Channel and on this obituary below.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of the many charities that Dick donated to: Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Utah Food Bank, Disabled Veterans National Foundation, and Primary Children’s Hospital.
His legacy lives on in the words many will remember: “I can do that.”
We would like to express our deepest appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful care team at Bristol Home Health, as well as to our family and friends for the exceptional care and support they provided our Dad during his final days at home.
