Waine Otto Ivie

My sweetheart, Waine Ivie passed away July 18, 2026 at the age of 86 in his Bountiful home of 57 years.

Waine Otto Ivie was born March 22, 1940 in Provo Utah to Otto Verlin Ivie and Miona Kate Watts Ivie. His birth and life was a direct result of a special blessing given to his mother and a life saving dream received by his mother prior to his birth. Their family lived in Lynndyl, Utah until 1949 at which time they moved to Springville where he grew up and went to school.

In 1958, during a wrestling meet his senior year, he suffered an injury to his back. It was discovered that he had a possible birth defect that would require extensive surgery. He was informed he could spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. Waine received a Priesthood blessing and in his own prayers made a covenant with the Lord. Waine graduated third in his class from Springville High School in May of 1958. He received his diploma at home while still recuperating from surgery in a full body cast. Even after a six vertebra fusion Waine went on to be one of the hardest working men I have ever known. His energy and drive seemed boundless.

Waine was an ambitious boy, even in his childhood as he worked picking fruit, corn, apples etc. As a youth and teenager he always had a job. He cleaned ditches for Springville Water Users Association. He worked for Eddington Canning Company as a pea vinery foreman in Springville and Kamas. His Uncle Don owned Brookside Market where he helped stock shelves, mop and wax floors, and plain just had fun. He drove Caterpillar equipment, backhoes, and other heavy duty machinery for Carl Smith helping build roads and campgrounds along the Mirror Lake Highway. He helped his brother-in-law, Roy Knudsen, for several years raising 50,000 turkeys each time. Before his mission he worked in Provo for the Union Pacific Railroad. Earning very good wages driving Cat one summer, he used his money to buy a ’56 green and white 4 door Chevy hard top that was his pride and joy! His ambitions kept him busy with many rewarding jobs.

Waine served a full time mission in the Central Atlantic States Mission, centered around Virginia, from 1960-1962. His faithful 11th grade sweetheart, Lorna, after just 6 weeks of dating, waited for him. They were married June 29, 1962 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Waine graduated from BYU in Aug 1965 with a Bachelors degree in Mathematics and a Minor in Accounting. The first job Waine accepted upon graduating was in Richland Washington working for Computer Science Corporation. In 1969, wanting to be closer to family, he accepted a job with Sperry Univac in Salt Lake City Utah. His accomplishments while working for this company are impressively long! After 36 years, and 10 plus company name changes, Waine retired in December 2005 after working many years as a Project Manager over Engineering and Computer Development.

Waine was an impeccable record keeper. He wrote, compiled, and published a 500 page book titled “Memoirs and Autobiography of Waine Otto Ivie”.

In 2004, we built a beautiful family cabin. With much hard work by all, fun times and great memories have been created there. We were blessed to enjoy many family vacations going to the Redwoods, backpacking, and endless road trips. When an opportunity came up for a river run, which were numerous, Waine and several children were always packed and ready to go. In 1999 we were invited by the Gary Petersen family to experience a three week, white water rafting trip on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. It proved to be one of the most thrilling experiences of our lifetime. Waine had many talents and hobbies and never ran out of projects. He could learn and do most anything and everything to perfection.

Waine served in many church callings including five Bishoprics and on the Stake High Council. He loved his Explorer Scouts and the many girls’ camps he participated in. Waine and Lorna served a mission together for several years as managers of the Centerville Home Storage Center.

Waine leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Lorna Sanford Ivie. His children: Kevin Waine Ivie, Chairl (Peter) Miller, Amber (Weston) Stringham, Amanda (Steve) Colbert. Grandchildren: Hazen Salisbury, Corbin Salisbury, Ellie George, Hillary (Paul) Ivie/Shade, Levi Miller, Cooper Stringham. And great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents Otto & Miona Ivie. Sisters: Verlin Ivie, Donna Knudsen. Daughters: Angela Ivie, Chanda Ivie George. Grandson: Zachary Waine Ivie. And many other extended family members and beloved pets. What a glorious reunion awaited him.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at the Bountiful Utah Orchard Stake Center, 3599 South Orchard Dr., Bountiful, Utah.

A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah and Wednesday morning 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.

Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Mapleton, UT at 3:00 p.m.
