Vicki Lynne Cowley September 1, 1948 – October 1, 2026
After many years of bravely fighting breast cancer, Vicki Lynne Cowley, our mom, grandma, sister, wife, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, October 1, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She was 78 and she faced her illness the same way she faced everything else: with patience, grace, and a whole lot of heart.
Vicki was born September 1, 1948, in Ogden, Utah, to Byrne and Donna Smith. She grew up alongside her sister Karol and her brother Richard. She attended so many different elementary schools that she became a pro at walking into a new room and making friends, a talent she never lost. She graduated from Clearfield High School in 1966, where she was a member of the Future Homemakers of America, a cheerleader, and the Senior Queen at the Harvest Ball. Her classmates described her as attractively dressed, a bit of a flirt, even tempered, and someone who managed to get into all activities. They also said she would never be forgotten, and they were right.
On July 12, 1969, Vicki married the love of her life, Charles G. Cowley, in Salt Lake City. They shared more than 54 wonderful years together and raised two daughters, Charlyn and Reagan. While raising her girls, Vicki went back to school at Weber State University, showing us that it's never too late to keep learning. Once her daughters were grown, she worked as a probation clerk for the Bountiful and Farmington court systems.
Mom loved to see the world. She traveled to Europe, where Florence stole her heart and she visited many other countries, including a trip to the Philippines to visit her daughter Charlyn’s family. But some of her happiest adventures were closer to home. She loved a good road trip, and she and our dad drove across the country more than once.
Vicki was friendly, patient, and kind to everyone she met. She had a wide circle of friends she adored, and nothing made her happier than a day of shopping and lunch with them. Still, family always came first. She was generous with her time, her love, and her attention, and she made each of us feel like we mattered most.
Vicki was preceded in death by her sweetheart, Charles, who passed away on January 3, 2024. We take comfort knowing they're together again. She leaves behind her daughters, Charlyn Cowley Coates (Travis) and Reagan Cowley Ivelia (Anthony); five grandchildren; her sister, Karol Hogan; and her favorite companion, her dog, Ivan.
A luncheon memorial will be held on Saturday, October 10 at 12:00 p.m. at Oakridge Country Club, 1492 West Shepard Lane, Farmington, Utah 84025. Please come share a meal and your favorite memories of Vicki. She would love nothing more than her friends and family gathered around a table together.
We are so grateful for every road trip, every lunch date, every bit of patience and kindness she gave us, and for the example she set of how to love people well. Thank you, Mom. We love you and we'll miss you every day.
