Vernon Davis Huffaker

Vernon Davis Huffaker returned home swiftly and peacefully to the arms of his Heavenly Father on December 6th, 2024. 

Vernon was born on November 14th, 1928, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Rawsel Vernon and Ethel Davis Huffaker, the youngest of four children and only son.

He married his eternal companion, Sylvia Burnett Huffaker, on November 25th, 1959, in the Ogden, Utah Temple. Together they had three children, Rex, David and Kris.

Vernon was a dedicated and lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a full-time mission with Māori people of New Zealand. He magnified many callings in his life. His faith was central to who he was and he had in insatiable thirst for the gospel, always enjoying, reading, and listening to the teachings of the Church. 

Vernon proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict, after which he became employed as a civil service engineer at Hill Air Force Base, achieving a GS 14 level until his retirement. 

Vernon achieved Advanced Degrees in Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering from Weber State College and the University of Utah. 

Vernon is proceeded in death by his Wife Sylvia, Son David, Daughter in law Kimberly and grandson David Christopher Micheal Huffaker. He is survived by his Son, Rex, his daughter Kris (Dwight) Christensen, his eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah, on Saturday, December 28th, 2024, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. A family graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 31st, 2024, at noon at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
