Vern Ronald Hardy

February 6, 1937 — November 1, 2023

Vern Ronald Hardy, Ron, passed away peacefully in his home at Legacy House of Bountiful on the cool, crisp evening of November 1, 2023. He was born on February 6, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah to loving parents, Heber Vern and Edna Melissa Hardy. Ron had one older brother, Malin. Both his parents and brother preceded him in death. Ron married his high school sweetheart, Kathleen Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple on December 6, 1956. They lived and raised their family in Bountiful, Utah and together they had five children: Teresa (George), Ron, Julie, Bryan (Lisa) and Matt (Shauna). Ron had 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Growing up, Ron loved spending the summers with his grandfather at Spirit Lake in the high Uinta's and helped build the lodge and cabins at the lake. He continued going to Spirit Lake throughout his life with his family until his health declined. He loved sharing the experience of Spirit and Tamarack lakes with all his scout groups during their summer camps. Ron graduated from South High School where he loved to play basketball and played on the high school team. At this time, he started working for Mountain Bell, like his dad before him, and ended up retiring early from US West. He then started his second career and love, working with and selling cars.
Ron worked hard through his life to provide for his family and enjoyed vacationing to Laguna Beach, Disneyland and Seaworld. Ron loved spending time working on his yard and lawn, detailing his cars, decorating for the holidays, making his special pancakes for the grandkids and playing a good game of 'Sorry!'. You could always catch Ron laughing uncontrollably to a good comedy. Some of Ron's favorite things included watching golf and BYU football, black licorice, dark chocolate, cherry Dr. Pepper, Hostess snowballs, Panda Express, hamburgers from Hires and shakes from Arctic Circle.
Ron was a faithful and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony and love for the Lord. Ron and Kathleen together served a two-year service mission at the South Davis Community Hospital Branch. Ron also served in various positions in the church including serving as bishop, stake secretary, bishopric counselor, scout master, and several other callings. Ron especially loved serving his friends and neighbors in the Bountiful 16th ward.
Ron leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and dedication. He loved and was proud of his Children, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren.  His legacy will live on through the generations he has touched.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. David Horsley and Rhiannon Stepherson RN, Season Farrer RN with Utah Home Health & Hospice, and the entire staff at Legacy House of Bountiful.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Bountiful 16th Ward Building, 720 E. 550 N., Bountiful, Utah. Friends and family may visit on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church prior to the funeral services. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
