Venna Miller Carlson

May 31, 1936 — August 4, 2021

Venna Miller Carlson 85 passed away peacefully at her home in Kaysville Utah August 4, 2021 with her loving husband of 68 years and family members by her side. Venna was born May 31, 1936 to Eva Bangerter Miller and Leo Miller in Bountiful Utah.

She was raised in Bountiful and grew up working with her grandparents on their farm. This is where her love of sitting in the pea patch eating raw peas began and continued through her life.  In 1951 she met Ellwood Carlson and fell in love. Ellwood had joined the US Airforce and was deployed to the Korean War. She waited faithfully for him to return and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on January 19th 1953. After moving to Washington DC for the final year of Dad’s service they returned home to settle in Bountiful and to raise their four sons.

Mom’s life has always been centered around our Savior and her love for him. She served in the primary as a teacher, counselor and president for over 25 years, and later served in the Relief Society in various callings including President.  She had a love for serving so as she grew older she spent most of her time doing Indexing compiling over 10,000 names.

Her family was always the most important to her and she found happiness in making ceramics, hand sewn clothing, and fine crochet work and giving these to her family. She and her grandkids always looked forward to her Easter egg hunts, birthdays and Christmas parties with her hand dipped chocolates. She also enjoyed teaching family members how to do canning and how to make her famous sweet pickles.

She and Dad loved to travel especially when they could go with friends and family. They took many trips to Disneyland, Zions, and the California coast while their children were young, and later was able to visit Oregon, Canada, Rushmore, Yellowstone, Mesa Verde and many others where she was always thrilled to see the wildlife especially the “cute deer”. Her favorite part of taking a trip was always the shopping, she never missed a store.

As She and Dad moved to Kaysville, she kept in close contact with her group of very good friends from Bountiful doing frequent lunches and birthdays. She and Dad have always kept their close friendships with their Bountiful roots and as they moved to Kaysville they soon became the favorite couple in their new Kaysville neighborhood and have grown many close friendships there.

Mom’s three year battle has grown many close friend ships from the wonderful nurses of Caregivers network, to the neighborhood “Angels”. The family would like to express our appreciation to everyone that has made this rough time a little easier from a dinner brought in to a hug or a smile we are grateful.

Venna is survived by her loving husband Ellwood Carlson, sons Keith (Donna),  Rick (Karla), Michael (Dee) and Brian (Kaylene), one Brother Edward Miller, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren. Preceded in returning to our Father in Heaven by her mother Eva, father Leo, two infant brothers, one granddaughter Elisa.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Deseret Chapel, 925 Deseret Drive, Kaysville, Utah.  Family and friends may call Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary and Crematory, 295 North Main St., Bountiful and Tuesday morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
