Velora Farnes passed away peacefully on Friday December 29, 2023. Velora was born in Preston Idaho on March 21, 1934, to Wallace Comish and Eudora Jensen Holliday. The fourth of 5 children, Velora spoke often of her time growing up in Preston. She attended high school at Preston High School. She married DeMore Corbridge Farnes on October 17, 1952, in the Logan Utah Temple.
DeMore and Velora started their life together first in Ogden with 1 child. They moved to Preston, having 2 more children before moving to Salt Lake City where they added 4 more children. In 1970, they moved to Bountiful. Their move to Bountiful provided a comfortable and safe community to raise their seven children, Randee Farnes (Shauna), Roxanne Thompson, Ryan Farnes (Barbara), Ray Farnes (Denise), Ronalee Schmidt, Russel Farnes, and Reed Farnes (Christin).
Velora was a faithful, lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Self-taught in playing the organ, Velora was the ward organist for well over 40 years. Her son Ray speaks of always comparing every organist he has heard to his mother, and “none of them ever compare”. Velora was not too happy to be released at the age of 80.
Velora was always fun at a party. She enjoyed time with her sister and sisters-in-law. She was adored by her many nieces and nephews. She was a voracious reader. Her care givers tell that she was still starting new books up to a month before she passed away.
Velora is survived by her children, 21 grandchildren, 35 surviving great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild (with another on the way) and her brother, Eldean Holliday (Peggy) and sister-in-law Elke Holliday. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, DeMore Farnes, son-in-law Gordon Schmidt, great grandchildren Hayden Roberts, Tristan Schmidt, and Connor Gregory; and her siblings Deverle Holliday, Darvel Holliday and Laurane Larson.
Special thanks to the aides and nurses at Rocky Mountain Care in Clearfield, Utah, where Velora spent the last 2 years of her life.
