Trudy Lyn Smith slipped into eternity to be clasped in the loving arms of Jesus and departed family members on February 5, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion that will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched. She was a beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth made people feel welcome wherever she went.
Trudy was born on April 27, 1957, in Ogden, Utah. She was the daughter of Delbert A. Smith and RaNae Allred Smith. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. She grew up in Layton and graduated from Layton High School. Along with her beautiful red hair she was blessed with a soft, tender heart and a resilient spirit. Her infectious smile had a way of lighting up a room.
In her early adult years, Trudy worked as a waitress in Layton, where she met Glen Hooper who became her partner for many years concluding with his passing in 1995. She embraced Glen’s children, Tammy and RJ, as her own, loving them with the same devotion that defined her life.
Later, she worked alongside her mother RaNae, stepfather Harlan, “little” Larry, niece Stacey, and nephew Todd at A-One Auto Salvage. It was a loving family environment she cherished daily. Eventually she began working at HAFB, where she formed friendships that remained dear to her throughout her life.
She fell in love and married Mike Vosper in 2012. He adored her and gave his heart to her completely. Their years together were filled with companionship, laughter and quiet happiness. Her passing will leave a major hole in his life.
Trudy had the kindest, most loving, tender heart you could possibly imagine. Her home was often a refuge for those in need of comfort, warmth, or belonging. To many, she was like a quiet guardian angel—steadfast, compassionate, and always ready with an open heart and an open door. Family, friends and her Savior, Jesus Christ were the things she treasured most in life. Her final message she wanted us to share was simple but powerful. “Don’t Smoke!”
Trudy is survived by her husband Mike, stepdaughter Mykayla Zaugg (Zach), brothers Larry Smith (Kathy), Brad Smith, her sister Debbie Swenson (Bruce), many nieces and nephews, 2 grandchildren, all who Trudy dearly loved. She was proceeded in death by her parents, brother Bryan Smith, sister-in-law Shelly Smith, niece Annie Dunn and nephew Scott Smith.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Trudy’s niece, Amanda Smith, for her love, companionship, and devoted care to Trudy especially during her final months.
