Travis Stephen Thurgood, age 45, was called home to his Heavenly Father and passed away on January 18, 2022, at his home in West Bountiful. Travis was born in 1976 to Stephen and MaryLynn Thurgood, the second of their nine children. He graduated from Bountiful High School in 1994 and then served a full time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Santiago, Chile East Mission.
He was married and sealed to his eternal companion, AnnMarie Palmer Thurgood, in August 1998 in the Bountiful, Utah, temple. He graduated from Utah State University in 2005 with a master’s degree in Civil Engineering. He worked at WCA Structural Engineering for seventeen years as a licensed Structural Engineer. Travis was an engineer by trade, but he could do anything he put his mind to. “Handyman” doesn’t even begin to describe him. Over the last few years, Travis had been working on expanding and remodeling the family home. He had a concrete business with his younger brother and best friend, Tim. Concrete was a trade they learned from their uncle Dennis. It’s hard to go anywhere in Davis County and not be near a job they did together or with Dennis’s crew.
Travis was a lifelong servant of his Heavenly Father and Savior. He served in many church callings, including serving as the Gospel Doctrine teacher, the Young Men’s President, the Second Counselor in two bishoprics, and serving on the High Council. He loved going on Trek with the youth every opportunity he got. He was always the first person to volunteer to help family, neighbors, ward members, and anyone else in need of assistance.
Travis loved running, but he especially loved those races he was able to share with his family. To the Viewmont High School Cross Country team, he was known as Trav-Man with the Van. He loved supporting his kids in all their activities, but especially running. He was a running coach for The Launch Team and loved helping kids gain a love for the sport that he himself loved. There weren’t very many mornings you wouldn’t find him pounding the pavement at 5:00 a.m. Rain or shine, Travis was out there.
Travis is survived by his wife AnnMarie and their six children: Ashley, Jaden, BreeAnna, Wyatt, Josie, and KayLynn.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 26, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at 1476 N. 300 W. Bountiful, Utah 84010 with a viewing from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. An evening viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 25, at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main St., Bountiful, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
