Tonya Marie Collins

November 16, 1969 — June 7, 2025

Tonya Marie Collins, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, returned to her heavenly home on June 7, 2025, after an extensive battle with lung cancer. She fought until the end and passed while surrounded by her devoted husband, six children, and parents.

Born November 16, 1969, in Bountiful, Utah, Tonya was the oldest of eight children born to Bradley William Steuart and Raeone Christensen. From a young age, Tonya developed several talents. She excelled in gymnastics and tumbling, and her passions led her to cheerleading at Bountiful High School. She continued to enjoy sports throughout her life as a fan of the Utah Red Rocks gymnastics team. Tonya also had a beautiful singing voice and performed in Bountiful High’s concert and a cappella choirs.

Tonya met the love of her life, Roy, in 1988. It was love at first sight. From the beginning, their connection felt timeless. They were married August 18, 1989, and were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Their abiding love was evident through more than 35 years of marriage.

As the oldest child, Tonya was a nurturing figure in the lives of her siblings. That caring, maternal instinct continued throughout her life. She often said that her greatest calling was to be a wife and mother, which she fulfilled by bringing six children into this world. Even while working for many years as a bookkeeper, Tonya continued pouring her heart and energy into supporting her family with her signature pure love.

In her free time, Tonya loved to read. She religiously checked out books from the library and could often be found in the recliner, engrossed in mystery, adventure, and romance novels. She was highly intelligent and had an amazing memory, often reciting childhood nursery rhymes, gospel hymns, and songs from primary and girls’ camp. Tonya also loved puzzles of every kind – anything from daily crosswords and Sudoku to elaborate 3,000-piece jigsaw puzzles.

The most memorable quality about Tonya was her Christlike love for her husband, her family, and her friends. She devoted her life to serving, helping, and caring for those around her in often quiet, unannounced ways. Tonya never wavered in expressing her thoughtfulness and care, even through her difficult battle with cancer. Whether she was asking thoughtful questions or offering compliments, Tonya always found ways to be kind and selfless. That was simply her nature. Her humble, loving spirit will impact generations.

Tonya is survived by her husband, LeRoy Edward Collins, Jr.; her children Gavin (Natalee), Kelsey, Garrett (Jessica), Landon (Joy), Parker, and Hayden; and her grandchildren, Kristy, Quinn, and Aunika. She is also survived by her parents, Bradley and Raeone; siblings Rodd (Julie), Ryan (Angela), Eric (Emma), Kimberley (Jonathan) Rivers, and Ashley (John) Bennett; and sister-in-law Jamie. Tonya was preceded in death by her sister, Christy, and brother, Daren.

We would like to thank Utah Cancer Specialists and Intermountain Health Hospice, along with their exceptional staff, for their tender and compassionate care.
