Thomas Boyd Barnes, age 84 passed away peacefully at home of heart failure on Thursday March 25, 2004. He was born in Smithfield, Utah to Nellie Mae Lemmon and Henry Barnes Dec. 30, 1919. He graduated from North Cache High School. He married Uldene Pearson in the SL Temple on Aug. 8, 1941, later divorced. They had four sons. Boyd married Metta Morrill Quinn on Nov 23, 1962. He adopted five of Metta?s six children and they were sealed as a family in the SL Temple on March 24, 1965. Ken was not living at home at that time. He served in the 14th Infantry Regiment in France and Germany in WWII. He was a salesman all his life and made many friends in his long career with Prudential Insurance Co. Boyd was a great storyteller. His family and friends will always chuckle at his stories, which he loved to tell. The week before his death he was entertaining some of his friends with humorous stories as they visited him in the SL Veterans Hospital. He served as president of the PTA and Jr. Chamber of Commerce in Smithfield. He was an Ordinance worker in the SL Temple for 12 years. He and Metta served as LDS church missionaries in the Mississippi, Jackson Mission 1969?1971 and later to the Adelaide, Australia Mission 1979?1981. He served 6 years as a volunteer at the South Davis Medical Center where he read to residents two days each week, telling stories to cheer them up. He only stopped when he himself became ill 3 years ago. His life?s Motto: ?Fill your mind with truth, fill your life with service, and fill your heart with love.? He is survived by his wife and sons, Lynn Sharon Barnes, Terry Barbara Barnes, Layne Barnes, Jay Barnes, Kenneth Quinn, Michael Dawn Quinn, Robert Quinn, Bill Nancy Quinn, and daughters, Barbara Malcolm Jones and Marilyn Ken Tyler; brother, Jack Alice Barnes; sisters, Winnie Olney Holland, Anna Mather, Afton Carlson, and Iva Jean Rudy. His parents, two sisters, Lucile Holt and Gwen Lindeman, and two grandchildren preceded him in death. Boyd loved the many visits of his 10 children, 38 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 1 great great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Monday Mar. 29, 2004 at the Canyon View Stake Center, 2110 N. Main St. Centerville, Ut. at 1:00 pm. Family and friends may call at Russon Brother?s Mortuary 295 N. Main St. in Bountiful on Sunday evening from 6:00 ? 8:00 pm. Also on Monday from 11:30 ? 12:30 at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Memorial Estates Cemetery in Bountiful Ut. 1640 E. Lakeview Dr. Our heartfelt thanks to the Dr.?s and staff at the SL Veterans Hospital for the attentive and devoted care that Boyd received during his hospital stays and illness. We are grateful to Harmony Care and Hospice for the care and help we received.
