Sylvia Faye Hess

September 26, 1939 — May 15, 2023

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend Sylvia Faye Hess passed away peacefully on May 15, 2023, at McKay Dee hospital in Ogden UT. Sylvia was born on September 26, 1939, in Pocatello, ID to Eva Lucille Lish and Robert Howard Curzon.

Mom married Harold Edwards Hess on May 17, 1963, in the Idaho Falls temple and together they had six children, Steve (Holly), Shauna (Neil), Brent (Kimberly), Brad (Heather), Mike (Jana) and Nathan (Katie). The children were spread out into what could be considered two families with 18 years separating Steve and Nathan. She is survived by her husband Harold and her children Shauna, Brent, Brad, Mike, and Nathan as well as her 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mom is proceeded in death by her parents Robert and Eva, and siblings: Madeline, Howard, Erma, David, Ruby, and Leland and her oldest son, Steve.

Mom was a devout lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. At the age of 21, Mom served a successful mission in the Northwest States Mission. Over her life, mom served in many stake and ward callings including Primary and Relief Society. Mom was always in the service of others, and willing and looking for opportunities to serve.

Dad took mom all over the country moving to locations for work. Some of the places that lived included Montpelier Idaho, Bountiful Utah, Birmingham Alabama, Charlotte North Carolina, Grantsville Utah, and most recently in Clinton Utah.

Mom enjoyed cooking, baking, and canning, and she really enjoyed sharing her goods with others. Her chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookies, fudge, toffee, and rolls, which are called Sunday chips, are well known, and loved by many people. She taught all her children the love of good food. Many of her recipes are handed down from generation to generation.

Mom enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. She would go out of her way to attend every event for her children and grandchildren. Birthdays were always a big deal, and she never missed sending a birthday card to every member of her family on their birthday.

Mom is dearly loved and will be missed every day. It is comforting to know that she is with her son Steve and her Mom and Dad.

We love you mom.
