Susan BuNell Carver Veater

May 30, 1955 — Jun 14, 2026

With grateful hearts, we celebrate the life of Susan BuNell Carver Veater, who passed away peacefully at home on June 14, 2026 after a years-long battle with Parkinson’s disease and ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Susan loved life! She demonstrated it constantly in a million ways, like playing Scrabble or checkers with anyone who was willing, cheering on her kids and grandkids at sporting events or recitals, being the first to throw the water balloon or stuffed animal, coaxing Ballard to take her fishing at Navajo Lake, inviting family over for food and games, or traveling to new destinations, especially on girls getaways. She loved antiquing, thrifting, and hunting for treasures at garage sales, demonstrated by her impressive collection of Haviland Limoges china. She loved to learn new things, decorate her home, and always had a home or garden project in the works. She enjoyed delicious food, especially Mexican food!

Susan had an incredible gift for connecting with others and making them feel loved and appreciated. She gave generously of herself and became fast friends with new acquaintances regularly. She lived her life with a generous heart, offering kindness and unconditional love to all around her. She was the heart of her family—a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a fun-loving grandma whose greatest joy came from spending time with the people she loved. Her home was a place where family and friends gathered and laughed together.

Susan and Ballard shared a beautiful bond that grew stronger with each passing year. More than husband and wife, they were best friends, faithful companions, and steadfast partners in every season of life. The love they shared was evident to all who knew them. Susan offered endless encouragement, wisdom, and support, always believing in her children and grandchildren, comforting their sorrows, and celebrating their successes. She created cherished memories through hugs, meals, stories, games, traditions, and countless expressions of love that will live on in the hearts of her family.

We are deeply grateful for the years we shared with Susan and for the love she poured into our lives every day. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ. She lived her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and loved serving in her faith, especially as a Primary Teacher. Though we will miss her dearly, we rejoice in the knowledge that death is not the end, that families are eternal, and we look forward to a joyful reunion.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Ballard S. Veater; her children and their spouses, Candice and Jim Karper, Michael and Leah Veater, Michelle and Dan Black, and Eric Veater; her 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; her mother, Donna Mae Crossman Carver; siblings Judith and John Marshall, Allen and Susan Carver, and Carolyn and Steve Palsky; and many other family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply and remember her always. She was preceded in death by her father, Murray A. Carver, and her brother, Murray E. Carver.
