Sue Ellen Gabbott Dewey

July 2, 1946 — August 17, 2021

Sue Ellen Dewey, age 75, died August 17, 2021 after a long battle with cancer surrounded by her loving children at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful. She was born July 2, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Donald and Mabel Jones Gabbott. She married David J Dewey on June 2, 1972 in the Salt Lake temple.

She is loved by everyone who knew her. Her faith and testimony were central to her life and evident in the way she lived daily. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother making her home a place of refuge for her family to gather.

She developed a deep passion for music and lyrics, thanks to her mother, Mabel Jones Gabbott. Sue instilled this passion for music in all of her children by incorporating it into their daily lives and especially family gatherings. In addition, she has a legacy of years of service in her church congregation, children’s schools and the Salt Lake Children’s Choir.

Sue was extensively involved in family history work, and found deep joy in chronicling and sharing the poetry and writings of her mother Mabel Jones Gabbott, and continued to do this right up to the end of her life.

Sue was a lifelong student, always seeking learning through reading, online courses and deep interest in children literature. She was a light in the life of all that knew her. Her sweet spirit and pure heart continually gave comfort to anyone who stood in need as she opened her heart and home to many.

She is survived by her husband David J Dewey, seven children, and sixteen grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Cheryl and brothers Geoff and Steve.

Funeral services will be held Friday August 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the Woods Cross Second Ward, 790 West 1500 South, Woods Cross, Utah 84087.  A viewing will be held the evening before from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah 84010 and Friday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services.  Interment at the Bountiful Cemetery.
