Steve Rigby Love, 94, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2025, in the presence of family members at Legacy House in Farmington, Utah. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on May 25, 1931. He is the son of Steve Layne Love and June Rigby Love.
Steve was a devoted disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ throughout out his life. Following the example of the Savior, he found joy in serving others. At the age of 27, he was called as the bishop of the Salt Lake 31st Ward. When his employment subsequently took him to Ogden, Utah, he was called to be the bishop of the Ogden 54th Ward at 30 years of age. Later, he served as Branch President of the South Davis Community Hospital where he helped to make temple attendance possible for the residents there. Among many other callings, he served as ward Sunday School president and Stake Sunday School president.
While working at Lagoon he met and fell in love with Colleen Ellis, the love of his life. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on November 23, 1955. Steve was a devoted husband to Colleen and was always there for her and their five children.
With Colleen as his companion he served missions in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and San Francisco, California. They also served as ordinance workers in the Bountiful Temple for eight years.
He enjoyed traveling the world with Colleen. They especially loved Oregon and took many road trips driving the coast and enjoying the picturesque ocean waves together.
Steve had a Bachelor of Arts and in 1956 earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Utah. He became Regional Manager of the Western States Division for Traveler’s Insurance. As manager, it was important to him to treat those he managed with the same respect and dignity that he showed customers.
He also believed in community service and was the editor of the weekly newsletter of the Salt Lake Rotary Club, vice president of the South Davis Chamber of Commerce, and committee member of Reparations for Victims of Drunk Drivers, appointed by the governor of Utah.
Steve was a teacher at heart. He enjoyed teaching in many capacities including Sunday School gospel doctrine, early morning seminary and institute. He was also an instructor at LDS Business College and taught courses such as Business Law which were sponsored by the University of Utah.
Steve proudly served in the United States Army National Guard during the Korean conflict. He was stationed in Wisconsin where he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class.
He is survived by his children: Diane Bachman (Robert), Gregory Love (Vanessa), Carol Jensen (Sterling), Mark Love, and Melanie Lloyd (Scott); 17 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren with another on the way; and his sister Luauna Brazell. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Colleen, his brother, David Love, his sister, Janet Orton, and his granddaughter, Kiara Love.
