Stephen was born in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada on December 6, 1974. He was the third of eleven children born to Robert and Barbara Kime. His family moved to Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada in 1976, and then to Bountiful in 1986.
Stephen was a happy, energetic child, and unusually strong. He excelled at wrestling in high school and placed in state finals. He liked to be early for appointments and would be at the school for wrestling meets before the bus arrived. He graduated from Woods Cross High School. He was an excellent swimmer and worked as a Lifeguard at Raging Waters.
He loved camping. He listened to lots of books, podcasts, and documentaries on a wide variety of topics on which he was well informed. He was a keen follower of news and politics. He loved woodworking, and tools, and built beautiful furniture. He had a gift for putting things together, for learning many different skills and trades, and for technology. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems from the University of Phoenix. He had a variety of jobs and businesses and often worked harder and longer hours than was good for him. He was dependable and conscientious working in construction as a carpenter at the time of his death. He worked his full shift the day before he died.
Stephen was married and divorced three times. He and Jeanie (Smith) Brierley are parents to Brin, Dara Kate, and their son Brody who passed away from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). He and Natalie are parents to Braxton, who lives in Texas. He and Melissa are parents to Brooklynn and Elliott. He loved his children and being a father.
Stephen had serious illnesses, including Krohn's, colitis, painful dental problems, and diabetes. His life was difficult. He showed great courage over many long years in coping with his physical and family challenges. He lived alone, in Murray, where a diabetic seizure in his apartment caused his death on February 19, 2026, at age 51, in St. Mark's Hospital Emergency.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and retained his faith in its teachings.
His surviving family includes his children, Brin, Dara Kate, Braxton, Brooklynn, and Elliott; his grandchildren, Alaska, Raegan, and Charlie (Brin's); and Brody (Dara Kate's); his parents Robert and Barbara; his siblings—Rob (& Sharon) and their 6 children and one grandchild: David (& Samantha) & Anneliese, Nathan (& Anette), Abigail, Olivia (& Makay), Elder Thomas Kime in Tennessee, and Sophie; Michael; Richard; Mary and her son Isaac; Benjamin; Bradley (& McCall & her son Nico) and his three children, Will and twins Ruby and Lo; Rachel; and Emily (& Justin) Ferrin and their three children, Paul, Afton, and Lachlan. He was preceded in death by his son Brody (1995), his brother Matthew, (2010), and his sister Sarah (2015).
Stephen will now enjoy the peace and rest that eluded him most of his life, in the loving care of our Beloved Savior. We look forward to happy reunion in eternity through the merciful Plan of our Father in Heaven.
Funeral services will be held at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah, on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 12 noon, preceded by a viewing from 10:45 - 11:45 a.m.
