Stella Tafoya Gallegos (born Mary Estelle Tafoya) passed away in San Diego, California, on May 23, 2023. Stella was born on February 20, 1933, in Fruita, Colorado, to Gabriel Tafoya and Fidelia Romero Tafoya. She moved to Salt Lake City, Utah as a young child where she lived for the majority of her life raising her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Lucy Mary Tafoya Otero, sister Emily F. Estelita, and brother Robert Tafoya, her husbands, Arthur Gallegos and Kenneth Clark; son, Arthur Raymond Gallegos, daughter Monica Marie Gallegos Daniels, son Victor Stanislaus Gallegos, and son Michael Andrew Gallegos. She is survived by her son, Arthur Thomas Gallegos, brothers Gene, Manuel, and Rudy, and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Stella, a woman of unwavering dedication, exemplified love and devotion as a faithful Catholic, cherished wife, nurturing mother, and adored grandmother. Throughout her life, she wholeheartedly embraced her role as the matriarch of her family, with a strong, loving and solid commitment to their well-being. Her profound love and selflessness were the guiding lights that illuminated every decision she made. Her selfless commitment to family instilled a sense of security and warmth that became the foundation of countless cherished memories.
Stella's vibrant spirit blossomed alongside the flowers she tenderly nurtured in her yard every spring and summer. Her passion for gardening was a testament to her nurturing nature, as she poured her heart into each delicate blossom, bringing joy to all. Stella found solace and excitement in her trips to the DI, where she would scour the shelves, discovering hidden treasures that sparked delight in her eyes.
Stella was an example of timeless elegance and style. She was the queen of keeping on trend, changing her hairstyle and thrifted fashion throughout her entire life, she loved wearing suits and pants. The laughter that echoed in the air reflected Stella's magnetic personality. Her infectious humor and quick wit brought smiles to faces, creating an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie wherever she went. The world has lost a truly extraordinary individual whose laughter and light will forever be cherished in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her.
A celebration of Stella's life will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 from 12:00 PM -3:00 PM at the Memorial House in Memory Grove Park, located at 375 North Canyon Road, Salt Lake City, Utah 84103. Parking will be available in Memory Grove Park. The gates will open 15-20 minutes before the celebration.
