Shirley Arlene Secrist

February 10, 1934 — January 24, 2023

Shirley Arlene Secrist left this life to be with her eternal sweetheart on January 24, 2023 at the age of 88. She died from complications of Alzheimers. 

Shirley was born February 10, 1934 in Toledo, Iowa to Milo March Striley and Blanche Marjorie Stevenson. 

After graduating high school, with honors, Shirley married William Ray Miner. She had two daughters during their marriage. They were later divorced. 

Shirley worked at White Sands Air Force Base in Las Cruces New Mexico. When she moved to Utah with her daughters she began working at IML. Shirley retired from IML November 1973. 

Shirley and her daughters were baptized, and confirmed members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on January 2nd and 3rd, 1965.

Shirley married Grant Henry Secrist December 21, 1973. They were later sealed for time and all eternity January 7, 1977, in the Salt Lake Temple. 

Shirley's greatest loves in her life were her family, her church membership, and reading. She served in various callings in the Relief Society, the Salt Lake Temple, and in the Genealogy Library in Salt Lake City.

After Grant's passing Shirley attended BYU graduating in Family History, with honors, April 1991. She was a Family Historian, and Consultant, helping many people learn how to find their ancestors. She also taught research classes and authored many family history books. 

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Julie Anne (Joe) Lythgoe, and Michele (Dean) Wall, 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, with 2 new additions on the way. She is also survived by her sister Barbara (Bruce) Muecke, as well as 3 neices, 1 nephew, and their families. 

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers (Merle and Dean Striley), and her beloved husband Grant. 

The viewing will be February 2, 2023 from 6 to 8 at the Russon Brothers Mortuary 1941 N. Main St. Farmington, Utah. Services will be February 3, 2023 at the Kaysville 7th ward church house 331 S. 50 W. Kaysville, Utah, with a viewing from 12 to 12:45 and a Celebration of Life from 1 to 2.
