Shirley Nelson Garlick

August 18, 1938 — March 14, 2021

Mom left us unexpectedly and peacefully returned to her heavenly home Sunday, March 14th. She was surrounded at home by her family who love and miss her dearly.

She was born in Lake Shore, UT, to Ina and LeVoid Nelson. She is the youngest of three daughters and one son. She lived most of her childhood in Spanish Fork, UT.

Mom was married and sealed for eternity to the love of her life, Keith Garlick, on December 18, 1959, in the Salt Lake Temple. They have been dedicated to each other for 62 years and were each other’s best friend. Their eternal courtship is a true love story. When asked what Dad’s marital status is, he always responds, “Eternal”. The lyrics of one of their favorite songs, “I know what we have is worth having, and I know what’s ahead is worth more”, describes their shared unwavering testimony that Families are Forever.

Together they served three missions. LDS Family Substance Abuse Program (2001-2005), Heber Valley Girls Camp (2009-2010), and the Utah Salt Lake City Mission Church Headquarters (2018-2019).

Mom was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who took extreme joy in her family, which was one of her highest priorities. She realized the importance of family gatherings and traditions which created the close knit family we all cherish today.

Her strong testimony of Jesus Christ shined through by her sincere service and genuine love for others. She was one of those people who made you feel comfortable and loved when in her presence. Mom taught us what was truly most important in this life. We are forever better because of her influence and example. She was a living angel on earth and now our guardian angel who will continue to bless our lives.

Together mom and dad are blessed with four children, nine grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren with more to come. She is survived by her loving husband, Keith, and their children, Kellie (Ron) Crandall, Micki (Thomas) Rosemann, Guy (Jodie) Garlick and her oldest sister, Myrtle Flanders. She is preceded in death by their infant son, Dusty.

We invite family and friends to attend her funeral service which will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the Bountiful 22nd Ward chapel, 990 North 100 West where a viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
