An angel daughter from Heaven returned home on December 8, 2025, to continue her “Joyful Journey”.
Sherry was born into this mortal life to parents Eli Brumm Rodgers, Jr. and Lucille Walton Wood on February 15, 1940, in Casper, Wyoming. At a very young age, her parents returned to Bountiful, Utah, the place where her ancestors settled.
She graduated from Bountiful High School in 1958 after serving in many school government positions. She loved going to school and learning and participating in the social life of high school. She then moved on to the University of Utah where she was the Social Vice President of Lambda Delta Sigma Psi Chapter and performed with the Lambda Delta Folk Dancers. She graduated in 1962 with a degree in foods and nutrition. She worked as a dietician at Holy Cross Hospital until she became a full time mom, a position that she cherished.
She met the love of her life and eternal companion Terry D. Bailey at the Institute of Religion at the University of Utah in 1960. They were married on March 19, 1965, in the Salt Lake Temple, and this year they celebrated 60 beautiful years together.
Sherry is the loving mother of six of the most precious kids in the world. Her family was her treasure. She was the strength of the family, she always had their backs. She loved every one of them and they loved her. Her home was a place of gathering for birthday parties, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and any other event in the lives of her posterity. She was an excellent cook making some of the most delicious meals, bread, and treats. The cookie jar was always full.
She loved preparing delicious foods which were perfectly presented for her family to enjoy. At the heart of this love was her remarkable vegetable garden. She enjoyed many hours pulling weeds, digging in the dirt, planting seeds, and harvesting a wide variety of delicious fruits and vegetables. Time in the garden was pure therapy. The bounteous harvest was then carefully and lovingly preserved so it could be enjoyed year round.
Sherry was a master at being able to stretch a dollar, and used every resource she had to help her family stay within budget, including making clothing for the children. She had a variety of tricks such as using powdered milk, watering down the orange juice, and getting six sandwiches out of one can of tuna. She also sold Avon and worked as an Election Judge.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life. She lovingly served in many church callings in Relief Society, Primary, Young Women’s, and Cub Scouting. Once she was called to be the ward organist when she didn’t even know how to play the organ. But with determination and a willingness to serve in any way in God’s kingdom, she learned to play the organ which was a blessing later in her life. She had a love of music and could play the piano by ear, not requiring any written music.
She and her husband served missions in Nauvoo, Illinois; Cebu, Philippines; Stockholm, Sweden; and Salt Lake City.
Throughout her life she was inclined to all things spiritual and good, developing a love of God and our Savior Jesus Christ which grew throughout her life until the day she left this mortal existence. She was faithful to the end in keeping sacred covenants, studying and pondering the scriptures, conference addresses, and church history. Many of her ancestors were blessed because of her diligence in finding them and completing their temple ordinances.
Her legacy of kindness, tolerance, love of all good, faithfulness, obedience, and forgiveness lives on as she now returns to her Heavenly home. Faith, obedience, humility, kindness, gentleness, forgiving, sharing, acceptance, unconditional love, and determination were hallmarks of her life.
Preceding her in death are her parents, grandparents, her sister Jeannette, and many noble ancestors.
She is survived by her husband Terry D. Bailey; her children: Thayne (Kena) Bailey, Orem; Stephannie (Gordon Cottle), American Fork; Rodger (Melissa) Bailey, Bountiful; Michael (Melissa) Bailey, Bountiful; Douglas (Amanda) Bailey, Centerville; and Staci (Josh Rogers), Kaysville; 25 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister Linda Hull, Syracuse; and brother Eli Brent Rodgers, Gilbert, Arizona.
We’ll miss her beautiful smile and presence. Till we meet again.
