Ruth Gloria Landvatter

Ruth Gloria Lewis Landvatter was born November 2, 1926 in Clifton Idaho, as the 7th of 9 children to Amos Howell and Ruth Porritt Lewis.  Gloria attended school from the 1st through the 6th grade in Oxford where there were 125 students from the 1st through 8th grades.  Having the same first name as her mom she went by Gloria to avoid confusion.  Gloria always loved to sing.  Gloria and her sister were given many opportunities to perform in cantatas and operettas, and sing on the radio. Gloria took the lead role in a school play.

Gloria's mom and dad separated when she was in the 6th grade.  She moved with her mom to Bear River City and a short time later to Brigham City.  The next two summers were spent living with her older sister and watching her sister's daughter while her sister worked.  During the next 2 school years Gloria lived with the Brimhall's, who wanted her to walk their youngest daughter to and from school.  Gloria said they "spoiled her a lot".

In ninth grade Gloria returned home to Brigham City for high school and started working for the telephone company.  She was the homecoming queen in high school.  In the 11th grade she met Frank and two years later in 1946 they were sealed in the Logan Temple.

Gloria worked while Frank went to school, and again after her kids were grown.  In all she worked 11 years with the telephone company, 7 years in banking and 10 years with the State Retirement office.

Gloria and Frank moved 15 times between Salt Lake, Provo and Brigham before they bought their 1st home in Orem.  They later moved to Bountiful, where she lived 57 years.

Frank was the love of her life and passed away in 2015 after 69 years of marriage.  They had five children: Terrie, Frank, Dan, Doug and Gina.

Mom served in many church callings including a mission to Chicago, a temple ordinance worker, and volunteered for 9 years at Lakeview Hospital. She loved to play golf. She decorated her home beautifully, and her home was featured for the Christmas parade of homes. On her 80th birthday she zip-lined through the jungle of Puerto Vallarta and repelled 40 feet.  Recently when asked, "after 97 years, what is most important to you?"  Without a hesitation she said, "my family."

Gloria is survived by her sister Opal Lawrence; children Terrie (JD) Stokes, Frank (Pat) Landvatter, Dan (Susan) Landvatter, Doug (Andrea) Landvatter, Gina (James) Sparks; 19 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Earl, Ray, Arta, Erva, Coy, Thora, and Doyle; and one granddaughter, Mita Lynn.

Funeral services will be held at Moss Hill Ward, January 19th, 11:00 am, 455 South 1200 East Bountiful, Utah. Viewings on Thursday January 18th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Russon  Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 am at Moss Hill Ward.  Interment will be at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, 1640 South Lakeview Drive, Bountiful.
