Ruth Ann Wood Christensen

Ruth Ann Wood Christensen passed away May 25, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born on March 5, 1935, in Ogden, Utah and raised by a faithful mother and father [LaVora Smith Wood and Melvin Wood] in Clearfield, Utah. She was mentored by five older sisters who set loving examples during her young life. After graduating from Davis High School, she worked in her family’s canning business where she met Val R. Christensen. They agreed to correspond by mail while he served a mission. After high school she attended Utah State University and Brigham Young University. When he returned from his mission they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 15, 1958. They were blessed with five children, 20 grandchildren, and currently 21 great-grandchildren. Her family, friends and neighbors were the recipients of many kind gifts of service. Her favorite activity was spending a few days each summer with her family at Bear Lake.

Over the years, she served in leadership roles on community boards in Logan, Utah where she and her husband lived for nearly 30 years. She served in many positions in the Church, including Ward Relief Society president and a counselor in the Stake Relief Society presidency. In 1996 they served as mission leaders in the Arizona Phoenix Mission. She often expressed love and admiration for the faith and devotion of the dedicated missionaries who served with her in Arizona.

Following their mission in Arizona, Val was called to serve as a General Authority Seventy which took them to the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, California and Hawaii. In 2007 she was called to serve as Matron of the newly constructed Rexburg Idaho Temple. With her husband, she assisted in guiding the work in the Lord’s House. She often expressed her love for the faithful saints who live in the Upper Snake River Valley. She has offered her testimony of the Savior to hundreds of saints across the world.

Ruth Ann and Val were married for 64 years before he passed away in 2022. Ruth Ann will be missed by her faithful children, Kent [Cara] Christensen, Bruce [Lisa] Christensen, Valerie Olsen [Eric], Koralie Smith [Carr], and Sheryln Doyle [Jef]. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, five sisters and their spouses, and a son-in-law, Carr Smith.

The family would like to thank the kind and caring staff at Creekside Senior Living in Bountiful, Utah for their care of Ruth Ann over the past years with her dementia. Thanks also to her granddaughters, other care givers. and the kind staff at A+ Hospice for their hundreds of hours of exceptional patience and love in caring for Ruth Ann during the past several months.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 1476 North 300 West, Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah and Saturday morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment - Clearfield City Cemetery.

Services will be streamed live on the Russon Mortuary Live Facebook page and on this obituary page. The live stream will begin about 10-15 minutes prior to the service and will be posted below.
