Rulon Kent Moon

R. Kent Moon, 75, husband, father, grandfather, passed away quietly and peacefully on October 18, 2024.

He was born on October 26, 1948, in Salt Lake City to Glen and Geraldine Moon. He grew up with two older brothers Jerry and Randy Moon in North Salt Lake where he attended Viewmont High School. His family moved to Denver, Colorado and he graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1967.

In 1968, he served a 2-year mission to Wellington, New Zealand for the LDS Church. He attended the University of Utah 1970-1974 and graduated with dual degrees in Finance and Business Management.

Kent began working for the Small Business Administration in 1974. He was always a hardworking and dedicated SBA officer, accepting greater SBA management positions in Helena, MT., Salt Lake City, UT., Indianapolis, IN., Washington D.C., and eventually becoming the SBA District Director for the state of Utah. Kent accepted a Senior Vice President position at Zions Bank in 1988 and quickly made the bank a national leader in SBA lending. In 2014, Kent developed the largest national CUSO small business lending program for credit unions. Kent was as a leader, using his finance and business understanding to promote and develop SBA programs nationally. Over his entire career, Kent made significant contributions to national small business lending, development and economic growth.

Kent married Debbie Gustaveson Moon, June 1971, and was blessed with four children, Adam, Aaron, Jason, and Jessica. Kent married Elizabeth Tucker Moon in 1996. In 2007 Kent met and fell in love with Tracy Casber Moon and were married July 4, 2008.

Kent loves his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his family. He always looked forward to family visits, birthday parties, holidays and especially Christmas. Kent loved to hunt and fish and shared many great hunting and fishing trips with his kids and grandkids. He always loved football and became the leader of the Bountiful Ute Conference Football Region and served as the head coach to the Bountiful Braves little league team. Kent coached his players to always work hard, to excel and he enjoyed working with many of them until they reached high school. Kent loved to learn, and he was an avid reader and student on many topics. He was deeply passionate about his role as a volunteer narrator and tour guide for the Natural History Museum of Utah. Kent loved golf and played all the time. He loved to travel and see the world. Kent and Tracy went on many trips to the Caribbean, to Africa, Egypt, Europe & Scandinavia.

Kent was preceded in death by his son Jason Glen Moon, his brother Jerry Moon and his parents Glen and Geraldine Moon. Kent is survived by his wife Tracy, his children Adam (Shelby), Aaron, Jessica, 7 grandchildren (Emma, Austin, Corynn, Logan, Brooke, Connor and Lucas), his brother Randy Moon and many family and friends who love him.

Funeral services will be held on Kent’s Birthday, Saturday October 26, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main St., Bountiful, UT 84010. Friends and family may visit from 12:45-1:45 p.m. prior to beginning the services.

Services will be streamed live on the Russon Mortuary Live Facebook page and on this obituary page. The live stream will begin about 10-15 minutes prior to the service and will be posted below.
