1948 Marie 2023

Rose Marie Powell Christiansen

September 2, 1948 — January 10, 2023

Bountiful, UT

Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother Rose Marie Powell Christiansen, 74, passed away on January 10, 2023, surrounded by her eternal companion and children in the comfort of her home.

Marie was born on September 2nd, 1948, to Glen K and Ruth Eugene Crane Powell in Salina, Utah. After her father’s passing when Marie was three years old, her mom, Ruth, married Blaine Douglas Brown, and they blended their families. Marie was loved dearly by her stepfather and siblings. She was raised on the ranch in Koosharem, Utah, making many memories with her siblings at Fish Lake until her family moved to Rose Park in Salt Lake City when she was 15. Marie graduated from West High School and later attended Utah State University to study bookkeeping.

She first met the love of her life, Wayne Wood Christiansen “Woody” at the Salt Lake City Airport upon return from his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After Woody’s Army Boot Camp graduation, they were engaged at the top of the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington. On June 4th, 1970, Marie married Woody in the LDS Salt Lake City, Utah Temple.

Marie and Woody went on to have seven children: Suzet, Benjamin (Amanda), Jenett (Mike) Houghton, Elizabeth Anderson, Samuel (Courtnie), Patricia, and Ane. They raised their children in the family homestead in Bountiful, Utah. Marie relished the time she and Woody spent with their 24 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marie worked as a bookkeeper for HEC Reading Horizons, followed by Mays Custom Tile until retiring. She was an active member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP) and held various positions in her camp. Marie also cherished volunteering at the South Davis Family History Center up the hill from her home. She loved to sew clothing and spent many years perfecting her craft and working on various quilts.

Marie held different church callings in her local LDS ward, including Primary President, Blazer Leader, Den Leader, Merry Miss leader, and others. She taught 4H, Joy School, and provided childcare for nieces, nephews, and neighbors.

During their marriage, Marie and Wayne lived briefly in Manhattan, Kansas, making lifelong friends while Woody served in the Army at home and overseas. They loved to take road trips in the western states and trips with very dear friends to Hawaii and South Carolina. They loved to travel to see out-of-state children and explore local historical landmarks.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Ruth; stepfather Blaine; her older brother Robert Glen (Delsa) Powell; her younger sister Vickie Kay Powell (Mark) Unsworth; and her great-grandson Arthur Wayne Jackson. Marie is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren and siblings; Charlene (Lamont) Burningham, Douglas (Debby) Brown, Delsa Powell, Earl (Betty) Brown, Mark (Marilyn) Unsworth, Garn (Carol) Brown, and Leila (Brandon) Bowen.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the wonderful hospice nurses and staff at Quality Home Health and Hospice and Russon Mortuary for their services.
