Ronald Smith Prows was born April 1st 1933 to wonderful parents, Joseph Henry Prows and Florence Smith in Salt Lake City Utah. He passed away on October 13th, 2018 at his home in Bountiful.
Ron grew up in the avenues of Salt Lake, attended West High, and began his lifelong love for music and adventures with Elaine. He went on to the University of Utah where he received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Science Education. During the Korean war he served in the US Navy as a Chief Petty Officer with honor, and when discharged married his sweetheart Elaine Jaquier on June 10th 1954, in the Salt Lake Temple. They have had a wonderful marriage for 64 years. During their early years of marriage Ron served for 15 years in the Tabernacle Choir participating in several tours including a tour to Europe. He would carry this wonderful talent and passion with his beautiful tenor voice to many choirs throughout the world. He was a teacher at Viewmont High and Bountiful High schools and in 1969 began an incredible 11 year service for the CES at the Church College of New Zealand. He taught biology, chemistry, physics, math, seminary and institute courses. He developed and built the science department at the college while providing amazing adventures for his 7 children. He was a generous man with his time, talents and resources. Ron took countless students and friends water skiing, boating, snorkeling, flying airplanes, motorcycling, hunting, fishing and camping. Ron co-directed the New Zealand Temple Pageant for 2 years, touching many people for good. He was always teaching and sharing his love for life and testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Ron became a Certified Property Manager working for Prowswood, where he received awards for all of the properties that he managed, and also became a Realtor. His love for teaching took him back to the classroom at Layton High School for another 15 years before retiring.
Throughout his life he was a faithful and committed member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, fulfilling many callings, including missions to The Salt Lake Temple Square Visitors Center, Jamaica as a CES coordinator, New Zealand as a CES coordinator, Inner City Mission and Lagoon Pioneer Village Visitor Center.
Ronald is survived by his loving wife Elaine; Seven Children: Paul Prows, Tracy Prows (Christa), Annette Snelgrove (Mike Snelgrove), Kent Prows (Robin), Reed Prows (Stephanie), David Prows (Cindy), Keith Prows (Lahna), 36 Grandchildren and 37 Great-grandchildren.
His posterity will forever remember a fun, loving, intelligent and kind man who lived a life of righteousness and goodness.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, October 18th, 2018 at 11 a.m., at the Val Verda 2nd Ward bldg., 3317 South 800 West Bountiful, Utah, where friends may call Wednesday night from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the church for a viewing and Thursday 10:00 -10:30 a.m. prior to services.
