Roma Hailstone Jenkins accomplished another of her goals last month by reaching her 100th birthday! Mom, in her quite unassuming way, accomplished many important things. She knew who she was, why she was here, and who she could become. On Sunday morning, Father’s Day, June 21, 2026, Roma departed this earthly life to join her eternal companion, Lynn, and all those who have gone before.
Roma was born May 17, 1926, in Logan, Utah, the oldest child and a twin daughter, to Morgan L. and Mamie F. Hailstone. Her twin sister, Rula, and later sisters Shirlee and Glenna, became the Hailstone family at 415 South First West. Roma and Rula were popular entertainers for many years performing together as dancers, singers, and pianists.
Roma was always friendly and had a smile for everyone she met. Her positive attitude and grateful heart were an example of her faith as she endured well throughout her life. She graduated from Logan High School and continued her studies at what is now Utah State University. It was at USU that she met her sweetheart Lynn E. Jenkins. They married and were eternally sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 11, 1947. They are the parents of 6 children, James (Kristine), Susan (Tad - deceased), Douglas (Connie), Nancy – deceased (Thad), David (Pam), and Carol. They have 29 grandchildren, and over one hundred great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Roma is a disciple of Jesus Christ, and a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Roma served in many assignments and callings throughout her life, in Primary, Sunday School, Young Woman’s, Relief Society President twice, and a Temple worker in the Salk Lake and Bountiful Utah Temples. She and Lynn served as full-time missionary companions in South Carolina and New Zealand. They made several travel tours as members of the US Friendship Force including trips to Japan, Venezuela, and Germany. She had the opportunity to travel as a guest with the Tabernacle Choir. Her love of music made this a most memorable experience. Of all her accomplishments, the most important to her was that of wife and mother.
The family expresses great appreciation to friends, neighbors, and ward members for their special friendship and care given in Roma’s most recent years and her 18 years without Lynn.
