Robert Wayne Hood

March 16, 1938 — December 8, 2020

During his recovery from heart surgery, Robert contracted Covid-19 and passed away on December 8, 2020. Robert was born in El Monte California to Grace and Clifford Hood Sr. At the age of 3, his family moved to Napa California, where Robert grew and developed many hobbies and interests. Among Robert’s favorite teen-aged activities was the rebuilding of car engines and the restoration of cars. Robert was most proud of his car. As would be typical of the 1950’s, his beautiful paint job included fiery flames on the wheel skirts and hood of his car. At age 16, Robert earned money by driving semi trucks for his father’s trucking company “Hood and Sons”.

Robert started college in Napa in 1956 where he met his sweetheart Susan Price. Robert transferred to BYU in 1958, and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in June of 1959. Robert put himself through college by driving trucks in the summers, working in the BYU heating plant and teaching statistics classes at BYU. Robert proposed to his sweetheart in November of 1959 and Robert and Susan were married in the Los Angeles Temple in June of 1960. The happy couple returned to BYU and soon started their family with their first son James being born while at BYU.

Upon graduation from BYU in economics in 1962, Robert returned his family to California. The family continued to grow with a daughter Dianna and son Bradley. He started his career in management at the Southern Pacific Railroad. He joined AT&T and began working on his MBA, graduating from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He enjoyed a 35 year career in marketing with AT&T. In 1980, Robert moved his family to Utah where they have lived for the last 40 years.

Robert immediately involved himself in Utah politics and enjoyed working on campaigns, serving as a delegate and serving for a period as the vice-chair of the Republican Party in Davis County.

Robert loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and would often share his thoughts and testimony with everyone. Although he held many callings, his favorite callings included missionary work and home teaching. He loved serving others in any way he could from visiting to helping people find employment. Robert loved and served his family and always wanted to lighten their trials. In his last several years, Robert was the primary caregiver for his wife and would explain to everyone that her care was the most important thing in his life.

Robert is survived by his wife Susan, 3 children, 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Clifford Jr. and Darrell.

A public viewing will be available from 5:30-7:30 pm, Wednesday December 16, 2020 at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful Utah. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Cemetery in Sandy, Utah.
