August 26, 2021 Bob passed away peacefully on August 26, 2021, at Whisper Cove Assisted Living Center in Kaysville, Utah. The son of Robert Greer Sothern and Alberta Whitehead, born in Long Beach, California.
Bob is survived by his wife Lorraine Sothern, his two sons, Paul, and John (Debi) two grandsons and two great grandsons. His sister Carol Hosszu (Dennis), a nephew Mike Linn and a niece, Joanne Robertson (Michael). Bob was a foster father to a Navajo Placement student, Yvonne Yazzie. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Glenn Ameling (Karla), Keith Ameling and Karen Willardson (Russell). Ten step grandchildren and 21 step great grandchildren.
Bob grew up in Long Beach, Ca. and after graduating from high school joined the U.S. Navy and became an Electrician’s Mate 3rd Class in the Submarine division. After the war, he returned to Long Beach and married Marilyn Davidson. He enjoyed dirt bike riding and competed in races in the Southern California area. He went to college on the GI Bill and graduated in Mechanical and Electrical engineering. He was divorced then later married Elizabeth Harmon. He worked for Continental Can Company and was an Engineering Consultant for new can factories around the world.
When Liz passed away from cancer, Bob married the widow, Lorraine Ameling. They moved from Seal Beach, CA to Prescott, AZ. They lived happily in Prescott for 31 years. Bob and Lorraine loved to travel and went on many trips together. When Bob moved to Prescott, he decided to take flying lessons and became a first-rate pilot. He purchased his own plane and he and Lorraine enjoyed even more adventures together. Bob enjoyed playing golf and flying model airplanes.
Bob was diagnosed with Dementia several years ago and has been in Memory Care for the past 5 months.
Bob was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and donated frequently to the missionary fund to help support missionaries for the church.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 3, 2021, at Russon Brothers Mortuary in Farmington at 11:00, viewing to be held one hour prior to services. 1941 N. Main, Farmington, UT.
Interment will be at the Kaysville City Cemetery 425 East Crestwood Drive Kaysville, Utah 84037.
