ROBERT EUGENE NILSON

February 11, 1943- October 5, 2021

Robert Eugene Nilson, age 78, passed away on October 5, 2021 in Ogden, Utah, returning in peace to his heavenly home.

Robert was the son of Robert L. and Marie Page Nilson. He was born in Logan, Utah on February 11, 1943 while his father was serving during World War II. He was the eldest of five children. His family spent his early years living on his grandparents’ farm in West Point, Utah. There he was raised with a beloved connection to his large extended family which was a blessing to him throughout his life. He enjoyed working hard alongside his father, learning many skills in farming, construction and carpentry. In his youth he was an avid athlete and was known by the nickname “Hawkeye” while attending Davis High School. In 1962, he served a mission in Florida for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Bob had a great skill and passion for snow skiing. He also enjoyed working with horses, camping, golfing, and photography. He spent his career working in the retail specialty food industry. He married Wendie Brown Nilson and was blessed with two sons, David and Michael. Bob especially treasured spending time on family vacations to Lake Powell with his sons and extended family.

Later, he was remarried to Linda Barton Nilson and had two daughters, Amanda and Kati. He lived in Bountiful, Utah for many years where he was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, neighbor, and friend. Bob took great joy in helping others and making memories with his family. His children and grandchildren meant everything to him. He enriched their lives with encouragement, celebration, and support.

In his later years he remarried Nancy Perkes Nilson. Robert and Nancy were good friends for most of their lives and were a great blessing to each other. They were married in the later part of their journey. Robert was a tender, gentle soul who was kind and loved to interact with all the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren that he was blessed with from this union. Their life together was spent doing the things they loved and enjoying the adventures they shared regardless if planned or spontaneous. One of their favorite pastimes was taking road trips together on their Goldwing motorcycle. He was a blessing to Nancy’s life. He was her sweetheart and best friend.

Robert had a pure and loving heart. He was a patient man. He was a listener and a quiet teacher. He was resourceful and creative. He loved God and others deeply with his warm hands, sweet smile, and beautiful blue eyes. He struggled many years with numerous physical and mental challenges, but fought for his life until the very end. He went into severe heart and kidney failure after suffering a heart attack and was able to leave this life quickly, freed from his pain and burdens. He will be greatly missed and loved forever.

Robert is survived by his wife Nancy Perkes Nilson, and his four children: Kati Nilson, Mandee (Brandon) Monson, Michael (LuAnn) Nilson, and David (Crystalyn) Nilson, and his 12 grandchildren, whom he adored. He is also survived by his siblings Colleen (Larsen), Paul, Marsha (Case), and Terry, and is preceded in death by his parents.
