Robert Checketts

July 1, 1941 — September 20, 2021

 

Bob was born July 1, 1941 in Logan, UT.  His parents were Lee Checketts and Orva Morgan Checketts.  He  had a twin brother Richard William Checketts.  He attended Ellis Elementary, Logan Jr High, and graduated from Logan High School.  He was active on the swim team and ROTC program.  He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Utah State University and later received a Master’s degree from Cal State Dominguez in California.

After graduating from USU, he was in the military at Fort Ord in California where he was a master chef and baker.  Upon completion of his military experience he met and married Bonnie Jean Baird.  They were sealed in the Los Angeles temple on April 10, 1971.  They were blessed with five wonderful children- Jason, Allison, Jeremy, Amy, and Annie.

While in California he worked for Fisher Body, Purex Corp, and A and W Engineering. He also taught Economics at Pepperdine University.

Bob has spent his life in the service of the Lord.  In California he was Elder’s Quorum President, Bishop, and in the Stake Presidency.  In 2011 Bob and Bonnie moved to Utah to be close to their children.  While here, he served as Young Men’s President and in the Bishopric.  He and Bonnie served a mission in North Ogden for 18 months.

Bob was a master story teller and a veracious reader of good books.

He was the ultimate Patriarch of his family.  He was survived by his wife- Bonnie;  a sister- Diane Eby; His late twin brother Richard Checketts; His children- Jason (Mandy), Jeremy (Missy), Amy (Elvin Uigaese), Allison, and Annie;  Eleven grandchildren- Ell, Ryder, Jayden, McKenzie, Makayla, Madison, Lex Uigaese, Layke Uigaese, London Uigaese, Bryonna, and Brooklynn.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 25,2021 at the Rock Creek Ward, 3267 West 700 South, Syracuse, Utah. There will be a viewing for friends and family from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment at the Providence City Cemetery.

The services will be streamed on the Russon Mortuary and Crematory Facebook page.  It will also be on the bottom of this obituary.
