Our beloved father, Robert “Bob” Browning Wilson, age 88, passed away unexpectedly on May 2, 2025, following a recent diagnosis of acute leukemia and kidney failure.
Bob was born on December 5, 1936, in Ogden, Utah, to Florence “Doone” Browning and James Wilson. A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bob was baptized at the age of 10 and faithfully served a three-year mission in São Paulo, Brazil, beginning in 1956. During that time, he learned Portuguese and developed a spirited teaching style that family lovingly remembers—including his unforgettable use of the “hand-finger snap” to capture attention and emphasize a point.
For the past 27 years, Bob was a devoted member of the Mueller Park 2nd Ward and served as a temple ordinance worker at the Bountiful Utah Temple. His faith and service were cornerstones of his life.
Bob graduated from Ogden High School and remained a proud “Tiger” throughout his life, even attending an alumni event in the fall of 2024. He served in the Utah National Guard’s 222nd Field Artillery Battalion B from 1955 to 1964. After his mission, Bob attended Weber State College. It was there, in a music appreciation class, that he met his future bride, Suzanne Stock. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 18, 1960.
Bob worked for Mountain Bell and successor phone companies, until he retired in 1997 after 34 years of dedicated service. A man of many interests, Bob enjoyed fishing and hunting in his early years, and sports, music, and especially golf throughout his life. He often hit the course with his sons and brothers-in-law until retiring his clubs in 2023. He loved his BYU Cougar football and basketball teams but could celebrate Utah victories with his children who are Ute fans. He enjoyed caring for his home – especially his rose garden. He loved travel, exploring historic places, and researching his family’s genealogy. He was deeply proud of his heritage and the perseverance of those who came before him.
More than anything, Bob cherished his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He supported his family in their many activities and interests. He was always present—and always proud.
Bob is survived by his five children: David (Claudia) Wilson; Steven (Kathy) Wilson; Debby (Billy) Peot; Michelle (Mitch) Felix; and Diane (Tim) Crowther. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and other close family and friends. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Suzanne Stock Wilson; his parents, Florence Browning and James Wilson; his in-laws, Laverne Gentry and Orville Stock; and many dear family members.
One of Bob’s favorite sayings was: “So, when that tomorrow comes, and I’m not here, don’t think we’re far apart. For when you think of me, I’ll be right here, in your heart.”
