Rita M. Nelson Ford

April 3, 1939 — December 14, 2020

Rita May Nelson Ford died peacefully December 14 at her home in Fruit Heights of ovarian cancer. She was 81 years old.  She lived in Alaska, Arizona, Fillmore, Ogden and Fruit Heights.  Proceeding her in death were her parents, George Angus Nelson and Juanita May West Nelson and two brothers, Bert Wayne Robinson and George Angus Nelson Jr. Her Sister Carol Lunt lives in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Rita married Lee Roy Logue in 1960, Lee Roy died in 2001.

Rita married Dixon Ford in 2008. They lived on their historical farm in Fruit Heights. They were sealed at the Bountiful LDS Temple in September 2020. Rita was Counselor in the LDS Relief Society four times, Ward Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher, Primary Teacher, MIA Teacher, Temple Worker, Cub Scout Leader, served a mission in Cove Fort, and a work mission with her husband, Dixon Ford.

She had four Grandchildren and one Daughter-In-Law, Lonna Ward, who Rita regarded as truly being her loving and faithful surrogate daughter that never failed her when she needed true family love at the most vulnerable times in her life.  She adopted Daniel Logue and Molly Arthur as infants.

Rita had a beautiful soprano voice, sang in the Arizona Opera and many other occasions. She and Dixon participated in many Utah Pioneer activities and LDS movies with Dixon’s oxen and covered wagon.

Rita will long be remembered for her sweet personality, beauty, grace, and dedication to her religion and family under many trying circumstances.

The family wishes to thank Rita’s sister Carol Lunt and the employees of Hospice for caring for her during her last days.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kaysville South Stake Center, 900 South Main Street.  Family and friends may call Friday evening from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Russon Farmington Mortuary, 1941 North Main Street and Saturday morning from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.  Interment- Ogden City Cemetery.  Online guest book at www.russonmortuary.com.
