Richard Lynn Zollinger, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and servant of God, passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2025, at the age of 72, surrounded by his family. His death was due to complications from lung cancer.
Richard devoted his life to his family, his faith, and quiet, consistent service to others. He lived by a simple personal mission: “To uplift, love, and help all people that God puts in my path.” He lived these words every day.
Richard was a giant of a man with a huge heart. He had the ability to make people feel seen, valued, and special. Whether with family, friends, or strangers, he met people with sincerity, warmth, and genuine interest, leaving them better for having known him.
A man of deep conviction and steadfast principles, Richard’s life was firmly rooted in his faith in Jesus Christ and the restored gospel. He was bold in sharing that faith, generous in giving of himself, and unwavering in his commitment to do what he believed was right.
He was born on January 9, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah and was raised in Kaysville, Utah. Richard attended Davis High School, where he was deeply involved and well respected. He served as student body secretary, was the starting quarterback on the football team, played center on the basketball team, and also competed in tennis. His leadership, discipline, and teamwork were evident even in his early years.
He went on to attend Utah State University for his undergraduate studies, where he served as Institute president for the Latter-day Saint Student Association. Richard later earned his MBA from Purdue University and became a Certified Public Accountant. He built a distinguished career in the technology industry, serving as Vice President in Silicon Valley. Through years of dedication and hard work, he provided for his family while modeling integrity, perseverance, and excellence. Richard and Lezlie raised their family in California, where many of their most cherished memories were made.
Above all, Richard cherished his role as a husband and father. He is survived by his loving wife, Lezlie Ann Zollinger (Nielsen), and their children: Natalie Reber (Ben), Eric Zollinger (Allison), Brandon Zollinger (Mihaela), Chase Zollinger (Molly), Brooke Murphy (Mikey), and Paige Zollinger (fiancé John Creager). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Gracie, McKay, Emmy, Liam, James, Grant, Dominic, Kora, Kai, Zoe, Afton, Hugh, Jack, and Camilla, each of whom brought him immense joy.
Richard was known for his remarkable work ethic and his willingness to sacrifice for his family and for others. He worked hard not for recognition, but out of love and responsibility. His generosity was constant and intentional. He was always looking for ways to give, include, and serve. He lived his faith openly and consistently, standing firm in his principles while extending kindness to all.
Service to others was a defining feature of Richard’s life. He was deeply committed to serving the homeless, building interfaith connections, and strengthening community bonds. He was honored by the City of Livermore for his community service and dedicated many years to supporting and serving orphanages in Mexico. His faith was lived not only in belief, but in action.
Richard also loved to travel, finding joy in exploring new places and experiences, especially when shared with those he loved. Whether through his work, his service, or his time with family, he approached life with gratitude, purpose, and love.
Those who knew him will remember a man who was steady, inclusive, and deeply faithful. His love was shown through action, his service was offered freely, and his legacy will continue through the lives he shaped.
