Richard Calvin Ranstrom

Oct 25, 1937 — Jul 30, 2026

Salt Lake City, UT

Richard Calvin Ranstrom, 88, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

Richard was born on October 25, 1937, in Wapello, Idaho, to Calvin Leonard and Clara (Scott) Ranstrom. He graduated in 1964 as a member of the first class of engineers from Weber State College, an accomplishment he remained proud of throughout his life.

On June 6, 1958, Richard married his first love, Jacklynne "Jackie" Stowe, in Ogden, Utah. Following Jackie's passing, he married Sherilyn Dyner on March 23, 1998, in Houston, Texas.

Richard enjoyed a successful career as a manufacturing engineer, with positions in Utah, California, Colorado, Illinois and South Dakota. Later in life, he combined his engineering expertise with his entrepreneurial spirit by founding Swede R's, a business specializing in the repair of Minn Kota boat motors from his home in Bountiful, Utah.

An avid outdoorsman, Richard's greatest passion was fishing. Whether on the ice, along a riverbank, at a favorite lake, or on the open ocean, he cherished every opportunity to cast a line. He was also a gifted carpenter whose craftsmanship was evident in the decks, sheds, pergolas, and gazebos he built for his family. In retirement, Richard discovered the sport of pickleball, competing in local leagues and twice participating in the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah.

Richard is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sherilyn Ranstrom; his son, Jeff (Diana) Ranstrom; his daughters, Susan (Mark) Shreeve and Richelle (Kevin) Braun; his stepdaughter, Jennifer Batchler; his grandchildren, Ian (Adrian) Ranstrom, Tanner Shreeve, Jacob Shreeve, Myranda (Travis Lueck) Becking, and Olivia (Levi) Brown; his step-grandchildren, Katy Raleigh and Jack Raleigh; nine great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jacklynne "Jackie" Ranstrom; his daughter, Dana Ranstrom; his parents, Calvin Leonard and Clara Ranstrom; and his sisters, Irene Barnes and Janet Jorgensen.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main St., Bountiful, Utah, with a viewing held prior from 9:00 – 10:00 AM. Burial to follow at Ben Lomond Cemetery, 526 East 2850 North, North Ogden, Utah.
