Richard Wayne Holman passed away peacefully on August 7, 2024, with his wife, Sarah, by his side, from complications of heart failure.
Richard was born in Panguitch, Utah, on November 1, 1983, to loving parents Wayne J. Holman and Sandra Crofts Holman. He grew up with six older siblings in Bountiful, Utah. He loved spending time with his parents and siblings, and made it a priority to nurture his relationships with them.
Richard graduated from Viewmont High School in 2002. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Guatemala. He continued sharing his testimony of the gospel as he served in various capacities. After his mission, Richard worked as an electrician and was studying to become a Master Electrician.
His career path changed when a virus damaged his heart. In the face of this setback he worked extra hard to learn new skills and to excel in a new career path. He became the Engineering Manager at Woodman Telcom Group, but decided VP of Engineering sounded better, so he had some new business cards made up.
Richard was sealed for time and eternity to the love of his life, Sarah Beth Woodman, in the Salt Lake City Temple on October 9, 2008.
Richard and Sarah were true companions in this life and will be in the next. Sarah was his best friend, greatest supporter, and his primary motivation. They loved being together, and they especially enjoyed date nights, trying new restaurants, renovating their home, and eventually, spending time with their cats. Although their greatest joy came from being parents to Norah.
Richard was the proud father of Norah, his “baby girl” who was born on October 8, 2012. Norah was his little princess, his “little lady”, and he would do anything for her. He fought hard to lengthen the time he could spend with her. Richard loved spoiling both Sarah and Norah. He supported Sarah in her career, educational and personal pursuits. He supported Norah in her interests, practices, performances and every other activity. He joyfully celebrated all of Norah’s accomplishments in school, on the stage and everywhere else. Norah courageously supported Richard through all his health trials. No doubt Richard will be her guardian angel throughout her life.
Richard loved his family deeply – the Holmans and the Woodmans. He was always finding ways to help them with projects, electrical quandaries, home-improvements and great cooking. In the summer of 2019, Richard and Sarah moved to be closer – way, way closer, to family. They bought the house next door to his childhood home, where his parents still live. He called his dad every night.
Richard was famous for his wit and humor. He was the first one to formulate a joke and turned every gathering, big or small, into a party, even if it meant that he was, somehow, always, the first one to start dancing. His heart may have been damaged by a virus, but it was always brimming with love. Despite discomfort and challenges, he was positive, optimistic and always, always found ways to help the people around him. He was a hard-worker, dedicated to his family and took care of the details in everything he did – from his profession to projects at the house, to art, to cooking. Richard was a reader who sought out knowledge and was always learning. He loved science fiction, history and studying the gospel. He was loyal to his family, caring towards friends and neighbors, and he made sure everyone knew they were loved and valued. He also gave the best hugs.
Richard will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His goodness and love will remain with us. The family wishes to thank the many medical professionals who cared for Richard throughout his health challenges.
Richard is survived by his wife, Sarah Holman; daughter, Norah Holman; parents, Wayne and Sandra Holman; and siblings, John Holman (Rieneke), Jennifer Cragun (Michael), Robert Holman (Meredith), Heather Peterson (Jason), Andrea Davis (Jim), and Heidi Patterson (Shad).
