Renee Robertson Whitesides, 94, passed away on April 29, 2024. Born on June 30, 1929 in Provo, Utah to Leroy J. and Naomi Nelson Robertson, Renee was raised in a loving, accepting family. Later, when the family moved to Salt Lake City, Renee attended and graduated from the University of Utah. While at the U of U, Renee met Stephen E. Whitesides. A short time later they were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on December 28, 1954. Throughout their marriage, they demonstrated kindness, courtesy, and trust.
After graduation, Renee played with the Utah Symphony, taught first grade, raised a family, and later enjoyed teaching private violin lessons. Renee had an enduring appreciation for the fine arts. She admired paintings, sculpture, literature, and had a fondness for good music, especially LDS hymns. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Renee had many opportunities for service, both at church and in the community.
One of Renee’s greatest attributes was her love for family, including nieces and nephews. Evening chats in the kitchen where humor and wisdom could be shared in equal measure were enriching and edifying. Her life was an example of unassuming modesty marked by unbending determination. Renee was a woman of poise, stability, and goodness.
Renee is survived by her husband, Stephen E. Whitesides, her three children, M. Kaye (Dan) Andersen, Robert E. (Michelle) Whitesides, and N. Jean Bradford; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Karen Robertson Post, and her brother, James Leroy Robertson. Renee was preceded in death by her sister Alice Marian Robertson Wilson, and by a great-grandson, Jackson Tingey.
Renee’s family is grateful to all who cared for and assisted her in her last years. They are especially grateful for a lifetime of memories that are certain to endure.
