With heavy hearts as we announce the passing of Ray Randall Boulton, who passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, and was surrounded by love and the memories he leaves us with. Born on September 18, 1932, in Bountiful, Utah, to James Richard and Camilla Randall Boulton, Ray embodied the virtues of kindness, dedication, and warmth throughout his 93 years.
Ray was raised in Bountiful, UT and graduated from Davis High School in 1950. His sense of duty led him to join the Air Force straight out of high school, where he was stationed mostly in Bermuda. Because he never saw war, he refrained from calling himself a veteran, but his service was a testament to his character and commitment.
After his military service, Ray found his calling in the telecommunications industry, dedicating 47 years to Mountain Bell, which later became US West and ultimately Qwest, before retiring in 2005. His work ethic, exemplified by his daily commutes on the UTA bus #48 from West Jordan to downtown regardless of the weather left an indelible mark on his children, teaching them the value of dedication and perseverance. His daily routine created lifelong friendships which were featured in a news story when the “bus gang” traveled to NYC after 9/11.
After a brief early marriage that ended in divorce, he found his soulmate in RaNae Willden while working at the telephone company. They married on May 11, 1974, and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on February 14, 1976 and made a home in West Jordan, UT. Together, they shared a passion for their faith as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where Ray contributed his melodious voice to the choir and supported RaNae in the Library.
Ray was an ardent BYU fan, and his enthusiasm for sports was infectious. It fostered a love for the Cougars in his son and grandson by sharing countless football and basketball games together. His sporting spirit extended to the golf course, where he found joy and a part-time job. This job required him to leave at 4 a.m. and drive over an hour, which just solidified his dedication and work ethic. In his earlier years, Ray was also an accomplished square dancer, earning many medals as testaments to his skill.
Ray's love for life was matched by his love for people. He was known as a kindhearted man who selflessly supported his children and those around him. His integrity and unwavering support were his hallmarks. Ray's passing leaves a void but also a wealth of treasured memories.
Ray was predeceased by his devoted parents, his beloved wife RaNae, his eight siblings—Gordon, Meryl, Glen, Robert, Hal Boulton, Wanda Burdett, Maurine Nye, and Adarene Riley-Hill—and his grandson, Troy Boulton. His legacy continues to live on through his children, Lisa and Jordan (Katie), his stepchildren Wendy, Michael and Leesa (Clyde), and his grandchildren Traeden (Ellie), Elison, and Emery.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Nick, Heather, and Claudia with Quality Hospice for the compassionate care provided in Ray's final days.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 11th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Farmington Pointe Ward chapel, located at 905 Foxhunter Drive, Farmington, UT.
