Randall LaMond Waters

Our most favorite guy, Randall LaMond Waters, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer and a life well lived. Randall is survived by his five cherished children; Christian, Kathryn, Nicholas, MaKayla, and Max, as well as his sweet baby sisters Kathleen Erskine, Karen Cole and Marilyn Shankula, and beloved grandchildren Julian Waters, Felix Waters, Marcella Waters and Micah Waters, and adored daughters-in-law and sons-in-law Kelly Henderson, Jill Waters, Tilly Waters and Sam McFarland.

Rand was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 1, 1948, to father Rollen LaMond Waters and mother Rosemary Wood Waters. Throughout his childhood, the family lived in Richfield and Bountiful, Utah, where Rand spent his youth enjoying time on the farm and cultivated a love of the outdoors, enjoying horseback riding, hunting and fishing in the nearby mountains.

After graduating from Bountiful High School, Rand attended Utah State University and the University of Utah, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree. He enjoyed a long and unique career that spanned industries and specialties; part executive, part sales, part chemist and part comedian, his entrepreneurial spirit never ceased. After an initial start with Xerox, Rand founded Micrapoint in the mid-1980s as a computer storage and law enforcement dispatch software company, followed by decades in water and purification businesses. Throughout the entirety of his career, he was most proud of the vast connections, relationships, and friendships that he built along the way.

Randall was the embodiment of fun. His larger-than-life personality and thoughtfulness turned strangers into friends and kept his life full of love and adventures. Everyone who knew Rand loved him, and his deep laugh and broad smile could light up any room. He was notorious for his ability to recite lines from his favorite movies, like The Big Lebowski, Blazing Saddles, and Let It Ride, just to name a few.

He lived for time with his family – boating trips at Lake Powell, fishing the rivers of the West, camping trips in the Uinta Mountains, movie nights with his kids and swinging clubs on the golf course whenever he could. Many of his favorite moments revolved around sharing a meal and laughs with good friends and family. He never missed an opportunity to make you feel special and share a laugh or a hug. Rand could help you out of car trouble or life trouble with a little advice, some handy tools, and the handyman’s secret weapon: duct tape. If you called with a problem, he would show up on your doorstep ready to lend a hand.

Randall, or simply Pops, Gramps or Popsie, is deeply loved by his family and will be dearly missed. We know you know, but we love you dad! There will never be another one like you.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah. There will be an evening visitation on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) in Rand’s memory.
