Prabha Chandra Malhi

April 14, 1942 — November 1, 2025

Bountiful, UT

Our beloved Prabha passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, leaving behind a legacy of love that lives in every heart she touched. She was the center of our family, steady, nurturing, and full of grace.

Born on April 14, 1942, in Suva, Fiji, during World War II, her life began in an extraordinary moment. As planes flew overhead, her father carried his wife and newborn daughter to safety in a nearby cave, an act of courage and protection that feels symbolic of how Prabha would live her life, with strength, compassion, and deep devotion to those she loved.

She came from a pioneering family whose roots trace back to India. Her childhood home on 1 Mile Road in Suva was always filled with laughter, the scent of food on the stove, and the warmth of togetherness. Those early years shaped the woman she became, someone who believed that love was best expressed through care, community, and food made from the heart.

At twenty-two, she set out on a brave journey across the ocean to England to marry her lifelong partner, Amrit. Together, they built a life across continents, from England to Fiji to the United States, grounded in love, hard work, and an unshakable commitment to family.

She was the matriarch of our family, the one everyone turned to. To her sisters, she was like a second mother. To her children and grandchildren, she was a safe place to land. And to everyone else, she was simply “Mousi,” the woman who made you feel like family the moment you walked through her door.

Her love language was food and presence. Her kitchen was sacred, a space where she poured her heart into every meal, making sure no one ever left hungry. To sit at her table was to be loved, seen, and cared for.

Throughout her life, she worked hard, from restaurants and factories to her years at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, where she cared for others with the same tenderness she showed her own family. When she and Amrit eventually settled in Bountiful, Utah, her home became what it had always been, a warm and welcoming place where love was abundant and everyone was fed in more ways than one.

Her legacy is love, pure, simple, and steady. She reminded us that love does not have to be grand to be lasting. It lives in the everyday, in a shared meal, a gentle word, a helping hand, a quiet act of kindness.

She is now reunited with her beloved husband Amrit, her son Rajnesh, and so many loved ones who have gone before her. Though her physical presence is no longer here, her spirit continues to live through us, in our laughter, our stories, and the meals we share in her honor.

  • “The soul is neither born, nor does it ever die.
  • It is ancient, unborn, and everlasting.
  • The body may perish, but the soul remains forever.”
