Philip R Averett

May 12, 1943 — June 6, 2021

Philip “Phil” R. Averett, 78, died Sunday June 6, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Phil was born May 12, 1943, in Midway, UT. In his younger years, the family moved to Bountiful, UT. Phil graduated from Bountiful High School, where he met and married his high school sweetheart of 60 years, Judy Youngberg. Together, Phil and Judy raised their five children in Woods Cross, UT. He worked for the Union Pacific and the Denver & Rio Grande Railroads for 41 years until his retirement in 2003. He spent his retirement doing the things he loved most, traveling the world with Judy and their good friends Gary and Karen Haslam, camping, hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his wife, family, and friends at his Cabin.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Phil, knew what a kind, generous, funny man he was. To say he would do anything for anybody was an understatement. He was a man of faith, who led by example. His family was the most important thing in his life, but that did not mean he would not hesitate to tease you if he got the chance.
He had a love of genealogy as well as history. He loved to watch old westerns and would “quiz” you about who the lead actor was. Along with his wife Judy, he had a love for the Jazz. He loved hunting and fishing with his sons and taking the girls out on special days for lunch and shopping for Mom’s Christmas presents.
Phil is survived by his wife Judy, his five children, Brad (Sheree) Averett, Cindy (Bob) Shepherd, Tonia (Susie) Averett, Clark (Shauna) Averett, Carol (Travis) Deering; Brother Lynn (Molly) Averett; Grandchildren Brittney, Kayd, Megan, Roby, Ryan, Zach, Nick, Taylon, Mallory and Marissa along with 12 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and LaNeva Averett and Brother Kent Averett.
Though he was small in stature, he was a giant of a man.
