Peggy Joyce McWhirt, 91, of Fairfield Village, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025. Born on May 8, 1934, in Nashville, Tennessee, Peggy graduated from Issac Litton High School and spent her life sharing warmth, humor and faith with all who knew her.
Peggy married David Johnson Collins, raising three children as a devoted homemaker whose love of baking – especially her pecan pies – brought joy to restaurants and family tables alike. Almost always seen wearing an apron, Peggy’s talents extended to candle making, often creating keepsakes from wedding invitations for cherished couples.
Above all, Peggy was known for her fun-loving spirit and her deep love for Jesus, a topic she never grew tired of sharing. Peggy and her daughter were affectionately referred to as a “comedy routine.” Her light-hearted spirit and deep faith made her both a friend and counselor to all – if you knew Peggy you heard about Jesus.
A life-long learner, she read extensively-especially the Bible – and treasured every update from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Peggy was active in both Presbyterian and non-denominational churches and generously supported animal welfare.
Peggy is survived by her daughter Vivian Hill, her son David Collins, her beloved grandchildren: Kristie and Clarke McGraw, Jamie Long, and Shane Gustafson; her great-grandchildren: Hayden McGraw, Ezra Long, and Caspian and Kaitlyn Gustafson. She was preceded in death by her daughter Cathy Long and second husband Paul Thomas McWhirt.
