Pauline Marie Hebert Bowen, beloved wife, mother, teacher, and friend, passed away surrounded by her family on January 12, 2026. Born to David and Diana Hebert on August 30, 1966, in Amarillo, Texas, she was the third of six children. She grew up in a lively household that included five daughters, one son, a menagerie of pets—including two pigs, two ponies, and an assortment of found dogs and cats—and countless cherished memories.
Pauline’s childhood was marked by resilience. She faced serious health challenges as an infant and endured 23 hospital visits for pneumonia during her first two years of life. Despite pneumonia continuing to afflict Pauline throughout her childhood, she managed to have many great adventures in life and form lifelong friendships along the way.
Softball became an important part of Pauline’s youth, teaching her about teamwork, sportsmanship, and even the occasional lesson in humility. Her softball skills were also instrumental in making an impression on her future husband.
In 1987, Pauline answered the call to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She joyfully embraced her assignment to Cleveland, Ohio, where she shared the gospel with heart, might, mind, and strength. It was there she met her future husband, Cal Bowen.
Pauline and Cal were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on May 11, 1991, and built a life full of love, laughter, and family. They raised six children and shared their home with three dogs. Their early years together included several moves for school and work, finally settling in Centerville, Utah, where they lived for 25 years.
A devoted mother, Pauline was active in her children’s schools, sports, and in the community. Teaching became one of her passions; she spent six years in elementary special education and a year and a half in high school, forming lifelong bonds with her students. She also volunteered extensively with the Bridge of Love Romania Foundation, making six trips to Romania to provide summer camps for foster children, earning the affectionate title of “Mama” from children there.
Pauline’s life was defined by love. She helped others find healing, counsel, and comfort; extended grace generously; and demonstrated unwavering faith in Jesus Christ through her actions. Wherever she was, her family and friends felt her warmth, care, and joy.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Cal; their six children; grandchildren; extended family; and countless friends. Pauline’s love, faith, and example will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
