Paulicea de Almeida Mori was born in Cachoeira de Paulo Afonso, Bahia, Brazil, on July 15, 1952, to José Augusto de Almeida and Maria Nunes de Almeida. Paulicea lost her father when she was only four years old, and that same year—believed to be around 1957—she also lost her little sister, Janeceia.
After her father’s passing, she spent part of her childhood in the state of Pernambuco. During that time, her mother and older siblings lost their small home in a devastating flood, losing all their belongings. Following this tragic event, Paulicea moved with her mother and siblings to São Paulo, Brazil.
It was in São Paulo that she met her husband, Hiroyuki Mori, and together they raised four children. Although she had limited formal schooling, Paulicea was an exceptional reader and writer. She was a devoted and extraordinary mother who encouraged her children to work hard, value their education, and love God above all things.
On January 26, 1997, Paulicea joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a faith that brought her strength, purpose, and deep spiritual comfort throughout her life.
In 2015, she moved with her daughters Erika and Juliana to Utah, where she had the opportunity to watch several of her grandchildren grow and to build cherished relationships with them.
Those who knew Paulicea will always remember her as a woman full of warmth, laughter, and a remarkable sense of humor. She had a natural ability to make others smile, bringing light and joy into every room she entered. She loved to cook, and her kitchen was a place of comfort and gathering. Her daughters are deeply grateful for the cooking skills, recipes, and traditions she lovingly passed down to them. Above all, aside from her children, God and the gospel of Jesus Christ were her greatest joy. Her faith guided her, strengthened her, and shaped the loving, generous, and joyful woman she remained throughout her life.
Paulicea is survived by her children: Eduardo Mori, Patricia Madden, Erika Graham, and Juliana Jackson; and by her beloved sons-in-law and daughter-in-law: Rachel Mori, Dionysos Madden, Tyler Jackson, and David Graham.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Maximus Mori, Gisselly Mori, Angelica Mori, Renzo Mori, Rosalie Mori, Natalia Madden, Madeline Madden, and Victor Madden; as well as her deceased granddaughter, Raquel Madden.
Paulicea was preceded in death by her parents, Maria de Lourdes de Almeida and José Augusto de Almeida; and by her siblings Janiceia de Almeida, Edson de Almeida, and her infant sister Janeceia de Almeida.
