June 20th, 1983 to May 7th, 2025. Patrick Webb McLoughlin, 41, passed away in his home of Roy, UT, his wife, Jessica Marie McLoughlin was by his side. He was born on June 20th, 1983 to James Charles McLoughlin and Roseanne Margaret McLoughlin. Patrick was their only child. He had a deep appreciation for literature, philosophy, politics, theology, guns and ballistics, and music; specifically metal- Patrick was referred to as a “die-hard”, a distinction reserved for the few with encyclopedic knowledge of underground metal. He was never one to talk about the weather, never minced words, and never capitulated on his positions. Patrick was a man who always made an impression. He was strong willed, morally obligated, and smart as a whip. Those who knew him well called Patrick a natural leader, and warned against challenging him whether that be in a game of pool or arguing against a position he held. There is hardly anything he loved more than a heated discussion with a friend or opponent.
Patrick and Jes began dating in 2019, enjoying a committed relationship for 5 years prior to their marriage on June 1st, 2024. They traveled between the states of Oregon, Montana, and Utah, finally settling together in Weber County. Their wedding was an intimate gathering in the mountains outside of Las Vegas, NV. Those in attendance remarked upon how happy Patrick was, how much pride he took in joining hands in matrimony. Patrick was a romantic. He was a dedicated husband, fiercely loyal and protective of his wife, he doted on Jes. He loved her most ardently. Each was the apple of the other’s eye, they looked forward to a lifetime together, to bringing children into this world. Patrick once told Jes that his search was over and his loneliness with it.
Patrick had a roguish charm about him, he was captivating. Despite his mischievousness, he was genteel, a quiet and thoughtful man. He was sentimental and took time each day to consider the small beautiful moments that are often ignored. He took great pleasure in the fact that his appearance was in stark contrast with the man he really was. He had a sharp wit, was eloquent and articulate, and a master conversationalist. He was truly one of a kind, he impacted so many lives and these changes will ripple out for generations.
Patrick took great pride in his roots, the descendent of Irish settlers in Appalachia. He was raised Catholic and began to inquire into Orthodox Christianity in the last few years of his life. He was forever in search of the truth, unsatisfied with the half answers or circular reasoning he found in the works of the great philosophers. Patrick recognized that this was the holistic worldview he had searched for his entire life. He was on his way to entering the church, crossing that threshold with Jes to transform their life forever under the love and mercy of Christ.
Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Roseanne McPeak McLoughlin and James C. McLoughlin. He is survived by his wife, Jessica McLoughlin, Aunt Mary T. McLoughlin of Grand Rapids, MI and his cousins, Linda McLoughlin Figel, Patty McLoughlin Major, Cathy McLoughlin, Michael P. McLoughlin, Rose McLoughlin O’Connor, Phoenix McLoughlin Burke and Ellen Witkowski, Emly Haas, Justin McLoughlin and James McLoughlin, and many relatives in Knoxville, Tennessee.
