Orval Kay Hayes

June 20, 1944 — December 24, 2022

Centerville, UT

Orval Kay Hayes was surrounded by his loved ones when he passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve.

Many of you knew Orval as a storyteller, a jokester, and an adventurer. He was always making new friends and sharing a good laugh. Orval grew up in Bountiful, Utah, where he met and married Rebecca Anderson. They later divorced. Shortly after Orval met and married Linda Smith Hayes. They were sealed in the LDS temple on September 20, 1974. Orval and Linda raised four children together (Shawn, Chris, Nick, and Rhyan) in Centerville, Utah.

Orval valued hard work, something he learned at a young age working for the Hayes family brick business. He later provided for his loved ones by working for the Bountiful City Street Department and LDS Church. Orval also held a great love for animals. When he was a boy, he never went anywhere without his wirehaired terrier named Crackers. After moving to Centerville with his kids, he started raising many different species of birds and tropical fish. For many years, he enjoyed time watching and caring for his homing pigeons and chickens.

During the past several years, Orval struggled with many health-related challenges. Despite the many difficulties, he always maintained a positive attitude and continued to entertain his friends, family, and caregivers.

Spending time with his 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild brought Orval the most joy. He was always willing to stop what he was doing so he could spend time with them. He enjoyed teaching them to golf, building things together, reading/coloring, and playing with them. In his spare time, he could be spotted on the golf course with Linda. The two of them often played together at Lakeside Golf Course, where Orval was fortunate to have hit a hole-in-one.

Orval was born in Bountiful, Utah, to James Orval Hayes and Annie Wilson Hayes. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, and a Grandson (Jandson). He is survived by his four children, 13 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
