Our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Friend died at her home in Bountiful, Utah on April 22, 2022 after suffering a third stroke on April 18, 2022. Norma was born on May 23, 1929 at the family home in Montpelier, Idaho. Norma was 92, she was hoping to reach 93, but missed it by a month. Her sons Jeff and Paul were there to support her. Norma was a real trooper the past three years as she struggled with lasting effects of her strokes.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Emma; her son, Steven, her husband, Lindon, her five brothers and five sisters and a great granddaughter Eliana with whom she has reunited. Norma is survived by her two sons Paul and Jeff, nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Norma’s sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life.
Norma married the love of her life, Lindon Grandy, whom she first met at the age of 13. It was love at first sight. They were married for almost 46 years. She loved flowers, especially roses. She was the original party girl. She loved to host parties and go to parties. She loved being with people. She was a wonderful cook, loved entertaining and loved to have people come stay with us. She loved spending time with family and friends.
She belonged to a Dinner Club, Craft Group, Pinochle Club and Bridge Club. She went to the Golden Years Center four times a week where she played bridge, attended Grief Group and practiced Tai Chi. She enjoyed her many trips to England and Europe.
Mom loved being a homemaker and taking care of her husband and children. Later in her life she worked for more than 19 years for Sperry Univac.
Norma was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a person of faith. She served in many positions. She particularly enjoyed serving as the Junior Sunday School Coordinator – she loved serving others. Norma and Lindon served in the Canada Calgary mission.
Norma was always smiling. She was kind, gentle, thoughtful, generous, compassionate, and forgiving. She loved to help people and to be involved. Norma was involved in fund-raising drives for the American Cancer Society, the Boy Scouts and Primary Children’s Hospital. She helped coordinate numerous blood drives. Norma donated blood often (in her younger years).
She was the quintessential nighthawk. She loved to stay up until 2:00 am talking on the phone, watching TV (she loved a good murder mystery), making handmade cards or writing letters.
Norma will be sorely missed by all those she left behind. Our hearts are sad. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed. Once you were her friend, you were always her friend. If there was something that needed to be done or someone who needed help, she was there to lend a helping hand. She has left us a great example to emulate. Norma was an inspiration to those who knew her.
Norma (Momsie) you brightened our lives with your smile and love. Heaven has one more shining star. Your light will shine on and the love you gave us will live in our hearts forever.
We wish to express our gratitude and love to family, friends, nurses and aides who helped us take care of our mother.
