Nelden Christian Nielsen Jr. (Chris), age 80, passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 15, 2026, in his Bountiful, Utah home, with his wife Peggy by his side.
Chris grew up on a small farm in rural Orem, Utah, where he enjoyed all the adventures a young boy could wish for with his brothers and sisters, riding horses, milking cows, and feeding chickens. He attended Lincoln Junior High and graduated from Orem High School in 1964.
He was active throughout his life and loved camping, family history, family reunions, rodeos, and the mountains. But most of all he loved playing with his grandchildren. His goal was to climb Utah’s 29 tallest peaks, and he successfully conquered 28 of them. From a young age, he was an avid coin collector and loved anything to do with train's. At age 70, he fulfilled a longtime dream by acquiring a gorgeous two-tone 1954 Chevy Bel Air.
Chris served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California Mission. He had a deep love for the gospel and his Savior, Jesus Christ. He also served in the U.S. Army as a medic for two years. Afterward, he spent several summers helping his parents on their farm in the Uintah Basin, planting crops and performing other farm work.
On November 9, 1990, he married his sweetheart, Peggy Eggett, in the Salt Lake Temple. After many years of trying, they were blessed with their long-awaited only child, a son named Ryan.
Chris retired after 32 years of service as a postal worker.
Chris was raised by loving parents, Mary Elinor Young Nielsen and Nelden C. Nielsen. He is survived by his siblings: Aprile Warren, Ronald (Nancy) Nielsen, Marjorie Wyler Decker, and Veronique) Nielsen.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Peggy, his son Ryan, and four beautiful grandchildren: Janessa, Skye, Boston, and Eli.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelden and Mary; his brother Thom Nielsen; his brother-in-law Craig Decker; and his nephew Kyle Nielsen.
